September is one of the best months to visit Brașov, and our own favourite. Afternoons average **23°C**, it rains on only about 7 days, and once Romanian schools go back (on 7 September in 2026) the Old Town and the day-trip sights are far quieter than in August. Everything seasonal is still open, including the Seven Ladders Canyon and the Transfăgărășan. The month brings the **DrAMAtic** international theatre festival and, in some years, Oktoberfest. Nights get cool, around 9°C, so pack a warm layer.

## Weather in September

These are the averages for the Brașov-Ghimbav weather station, 2015–2025, from the table in our [Brașov weather and seasons guide](https://wowbrasov.com/en/the-weather-and-seasons-in-brasov):

| | September |
|---|---|
| Average high | 23°C (73°F) |
| Average low | 9°C (48°F) |
| Rain | about 50 mm on 7 days |
| Nights below 0°C | about 1 |
| Daylight | 13 h 20 min on 1 September, 11 h 49 min on 30 September |
| Sunrise / sunset | 06:37 / 19:57 on 1 September; 07:13 / 19:02 on 30 September |

Sunrise and sunset times are from [sunrise-sunset.org](https://sunrise-sunset.org/).

What it feels like: warm, settled afternoons and fresh mornings, with a big gap between the two. Late September is drier than June. The first cold nights usually arrive towards the end of the month, and on the high ridges the first snow can come early: on **8 October 2025** heavy snow closed the Transfăgărășan for a day ([Economedia](https://economedia.ro/?p=295552)). The days shorten fast, by about an hour and a half over the month.

## Events in September

- **DrAMAtic Brașov International Festival.** The Sică Alexandrescu Theatre's international festival, with Romanian and foreign productions, concerts and readings. Programme and tickets appear on the theatre's site, teatrulsicaalexandrescu.ro.
- **Oktoberfest Brașov.** Its dates move a lot: in 2026 the tent on Strada Turnului was open from 27 August to **6 September**, while in 2025 it ran from **18 September to 5 October**. Entry is free. The 2027 dates have not been announced; see our [Oktoberfest Brașov guide](https://wowbrasov.com/en/oktoberfest-in-brasov-bavarian-tradition-and-joy-in-the-heart-of-romania).
- **Organ Nights at the Black Church** continue every Saturday at 18:00 (until 17 October in 2026), 35 lei, under-18s free ([parish events page](https://bisericaneagra.ro/en/events/)).

## What's open and what's closed

Almost everything is open, with one closure to plan around:

- **Pelișor Castle** in Sinaia, the smaller castle next to Peleș, is **closed from 28 September to 3 November 2026** for cleaning and preventive conservation. **Peleș Castle** stays open in September (Wednesday to Sunday) but closes from 2 November ([National Peleș Museum](https://peles.ro/ro/program-si-taxe/)).
- **Seven Ladders Canyon:** open daily, last entry 16:00; the administrator's FAQ gives April to October as the season.
- **Transfăgărășan:** open daily 07:00–21:00 in 2026. In 2025 it closed for the winter on 20 October ([BZI](https://www.bzi.ro/transfagarasanul-si-transalpina-inchise-oficial-pana-in-primavara-fenomenele-meteo-extreme-pot-aparea-in-orice-moment-5380297)), so plan a drive for September or the first half of October at the latest.
- **Bran Castle:** summer hours, Tuesday to Sunday 09:00–19:00, Monday 12:00–19:00 (last entry).
- **Black Church:** open until 19:00 until 15 October, then winter hours.
- **Libearty Bear Sanctuary:** tours Tuesday to Sunday at 09:45 and 11:00.

## Best things to do in September

1. **Hike.** Mid-June to late September is the hiking season around Brașov, and September has the steadiest weather of it. Start with Tâmpa or the old road to Poiana Brașov from our [walking guide](https://wowbrasov.com/en/6-ideal-places-for-taking-a-walk-in-brasov).
2. **Seven Ladders Canyon** without the summer queues. Our [canyon guide](https://wowbrasov.com/en/seven-ladders-canyon-brasov-guide) has the bus times and prices.
3. **Peleș Castle before its November closure.** Go Wednesday to Sunday; see our [Peleș Castle guide](https://wowbrasov.com/en/discovering-peles-castle-a-magnificent-romanian-landmark). Pelișor is shut from 28 September.
4. **Bran Castle** with shorter queues than in August. Our guide to [getting to Bran Castle](https://wowbrasov.com/en/how-to-reach-bran-castle-from-brasov) has the bus timetable.
5. **The Transfăgărășan or Sibiu.** Plan the mountain road early in the month; Sibiu works by train any time. See our [Brașov to Sibiu guide](https://wowbrasov.com/en/how-to-travel-from-brasov-to-sibiu).
6. **A play at DrAMAtic** or a Saturday organ concert at the [Black Church](https://wowbrasov.com/en/discover-the-black-church-in-brasov).

## Crowds and prices

September is noticeably quieter than July and August: the summer crowds have gone, and with schools back from early September, weekdays are calm. There are no public holidays and so no long weekends. Weekends stay busier at the main sights; book Bran Castle tickets online whatever the month.

Room rates vary with the date, so compare a few dates before you book. The attraction prices in our linked guides were checked in October 2026.

## What to pack

- Layers: a T-shirt for the afternoon, a fleece or light jacket for the morning and evening, when it can be 14°C colder.
- A light rain jacket.
- Walking shoes with grip, and a warmer jacket and hat if you're going up to the ridges or the Transfăgărășan.
