- **From Otopeni:** CFR's airport train runs to București Nord (Gara de Nord) in 25 minutes. Change there to one of about 20 direct trains a day to Brașov; take an InterRegio (IR) or InterCity (IC) train, the fastest of which take 2 h 15 min. ## The direct train from Budapest

Hungary has direct trains to Brașov. According to MÁV's international timetables ([via Debrecen and Carei](https://www.mavcsoport.hu/sites/default/files/upload/page/nk_mnr_nagykaroly.pdf), [via Arad](https://www.mavcsoport.hu/sites/default/files/upload/page/nk_mnr_arad.pdf)), current in October 2026:

| Train | Budapest-Keleti → Brașov | Brașov → Budapest-Keleti | Route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Corona (IC 407 / IC 406), overnight | 17:40 → 09:15 | 18:59 → 09:20 | Debrecen, Carei, Dej, Toplița, Gheorgheni, Miercurea Ciuc, Sfântu Gheorghe |
| Hargita (IC 367 / IC 366), by day | 06:40 → 22:25 | 07:54 → 23:00 | The same route as the Corona |
| Ister (IC 473 / IC 472), overnight, continues to Bucharest | 19:10 → 07:57 | 20:54 → 08:50 | Via Arad and Sibiu |

Times are local, and Romania is one hour ahead of Hungary. The Corona has seats, couchettes, a sleeping car and a dining car, according to [MÁV](https://www.mavcsoport.hu/mav-szemelyszallitas/szolgaltatasok/ejszakai-utazas); between 25 May and 16 September 2026 it ran only as far as Miercurea Ciuc because of track works. Trains are slower than flying, but they arrive at Brașov station, in the city, with no airport transfer. Timetables change in December, so check times and prices in the [MÁV journey planner](https://www.mavcsoport.hu/en) or the [CFR journey planner](https://bilete.cfrcalatori.ro/) before you book.
