Brașov is an easy city to work from for a few weeks or months. A coworking desk costs from €15 a day, or about €140–150 a month at Maccollab and Digital Nomads Hub; home fibre runs at up to 940 Mbps for 8.25 € a month on Digi's top plan; and a prepaid SIM with unlimited national data costs 6 € credit a month from Orange or Vodafone (all checked on 10 October 2026). Crowd-sourced figures on Numbeo put a one-bedroom flat in the centre at about 3,274 lei a month. EU and EEA citizens need no visa but must register if they stay longer than three months; most other visitors get 90 days in any 180 under Schengen rules, or can apply for Romania's digital nomad visa if they earn at least three times the Romanian average gross wage.

This guide is part of [Plan your trip to Brașov](https://wowbrasov.com/en/plan-your-trip).

## Is Brașov a good base for remote work?

For most people, yes. You get a compact, walkable centre, fast fixed internet, a monthly bus pass that covers the whole city for 110 lei, and mountains you can reach by city bus: bus 20 climbs to the ski resort of Poiana Brașov in about 25 minutes. Bucharest is 2 h 15 – 2 h 40 away by InterCity or InterRegio train (see [Bucharest to Brașov](https://wowbrasov.com/en/the-best-ways-to-travel-between-bucharest-and-brasov)), and the city has its own [international airport](https://wowbrasov.com/en/brasov-international-airport-everything-you-need-to-know).

The drawbacks are worth knowing before you book a month:

- **The coworking scene is small.** Pluria lists between 4 and 27 desks per space, and most are open on weekdays only.
- **No regular public nomad meetup is listed** (see [community](#community-and-meetups) below).
- **Winters are long and cold,** which is great for skiing and less so if you want to work from a terrace. Our [weather guide](https://wowbrasov.com/en/the-weather-and-seasons-in-brasov) has the month-by-month picture.
- **December weekends are the busiest time in the Old Town,** when the [Christmas market](https://wowbrasov.com/en/brasov-christmas-market) fills Piața Sfatului, so book a flat early if you'll be here then.

## Coworking spaces

These are the spaces we found operating in October 2026, with prices from their own websites and opening hours from Pluria, the workspace booking platform, unless stated otherwise.

VAT in Romania is 21% ([TVR Info](https://tvrinfo.ro/romania-intra-in-august-cu-tva-de-21-si-accize-mai-mari-scumpiri-la-transport-comunicatii-si-alimente/)), so €150 + VAT comes to €181.50. Maccollab's site doesn't say whether its prices include VAT.

### Digital Nomads Hub

**Address:** Bulevardul Mihail Kogălniceanu 13, block C2, entrance B, 1st floor, flat 1, in Centrul Nou, about 2 km north-east of Piața Sfatului and 1 km from the train station.

[Digital Nomads Hub](https://digitalnomadshub.ro/en/) is the space aimed most directly at remote workers. Its website lists a day pass at €15 + VAT, a week at €50 + VAT, a month at €150 + VAT and bundles of 10 or 15 entries (€120 or €165 + VAT, to use within two months). You choose between a hot desk and a reserved desk, which comes with a 24- or 27-inch monitor when one is available. It advertises a dedicated gigabit connection with Ethernet ports, a kitchen with free coffee, members-only access and 24-hour CCTV, and you book and pay online. Pluria lists it with 10 desks, open Monday to Friday 08:00–20:00.

### Maccollab

**Address:** Strada Horia 22A, in Bartolomeu, about 1.5 km north-west of Piața Sfatului; bus 14 stops at Bisericii Române nearby ([RATBV line 14](https://www.ratbv.ro/afisaje/14-dus.html)).

[Maccollab](https://maccollab.com/) is an office building with a coworking area, private offices and a conference room. A dedicated desk in the coworking area costs €15 a day, €50 a week or €140 a month, and private offices start at €200 per desk a month, on monthly contracts with no long-term commitment. Members get 24/7 access with a personal key card; the price includes internet, daily cleaning and the shared kitchen, and the site says there is free street parking outside. It describes itself as a social enterprise that runs courses for young people and gives one person from a vulnerable background a free desk each month. Phone +40 731 624 845.

### Hub 1317

**Address:** Strada 13 Decembrie 17, Centrul Nou, about 1.8 km north-east of Piața Sfatului.

[Hub 1317](https://hub1317.ro/) says it has been open since 2012 and calls itself the first coworking space in Brașov. Its website lists a "Resident" membership with a dedicated desk and storage for 599 lei a month, a "Business" membership for 799 lei, meeting rooms at 25 lei an hour, a dedicated line with at least 50 Mbps guaranteed, and opening hours of Monday to Friday 08:30–20:00. The website seems not to have been updated for several years, though, and Pluria currently lists only its meeting room, open Monday to Friday 09:00–17:00, so call (+40 744 583 682) before you plan around it.

### Kool Work, Simplicity Hub and Stoneskip House

Three smaller spaces in and around the Old Town take bookings through [Pluria](https://pluria.co/coworking-spaces/romania/brasov), which doesn't show their prices until you book:

- **Kool Work – Coworking Boutique,** Strada Mureșenilor 27, 2nd floor (Hub 2068, entrance A), in the Old Town: 4 desks and a meeting room for 6, open Monday to Friday 09:00–18:00, with reception check-in from 09:00 to 11:00.
- **Simplicity Hub,** Strada Mihai Eminescu 28, 1st floor, in a restored house from the 1900s just north of the Old Town: 4 desks, two meeting rooms for 8 and a terrace, open Monday to Friday 09:00–18:00.
- **Stoneskip House,** Strada Republicii 55, 1st floor, flat 2, on the Old Town's main pedestrian street: a 4-desk studio with fibre internet and a meeting room for 8, open Monday to Friday 09:00–17:00.

## Working from cafés

No published source says which Brașov cafés welcome laptops or what their Wi-Fi is like. Ask before you settle in for the afternoon, and order something every hour or two.

## Internet: home fibre and mobile data

### Home internet

Digi, which says it runs Romania's largest fibre network, sells **FiberLink 500** (up to 500/250 Mbps) for 6.25 € a month and **FiberLink 1000** (up to 940/450 Mbps, average 850/400 Mbps) for 8.25 € a month, on a 24-month contract with a 12-month minimum; you pay in lei at the National Bank's exchange rate ([Digi](https://www.digi.ro/servicii/internet/internet-fix)). For a stay of a few months you'll usually rely on the landlord's connection, so ask for the plan and a speed test before you sign. Numbeo's crowd-sourced average for a 60 Mbps-plus broadband plan in Brașov is 43.44 lei a month.

### Mobile data

- **EU and EEA SIMs** work in Romania at home prices under the EU's roam-like-at-home rules, within your operator's fair-use limits ([Your Europe](https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/mobile-and-internet/mobile-roaming-costs/index_en.htm)). For a longer stay a local SIM is still cheaper and avoids fair-use caps.
- **Orange PrePay** sells a SIM or an eSIM with 3 € or 5 € credit in Orange shops, partner shops and online. Its **6 € credit** option gives unlimited national data at 5G speeds, unlimited calls and texts within the network and 4,000 national and international minutes for 30 days; the **5 € credit** option gives 250 GB for 28 days ([Orange](https://www.orange.ro/prepay/), [SIM and eSIM](https://www.orange.ro/prepay/cartela-sim/)).
- **Vodafone Cartela** sells a new SIM online with 5 € initial credit and free delivery anywhere in Romania, or in Vodafone and partner shops. Its **Oferta 6** gives unlimited national data for 28 days for 6 € credit, reduced to 5 € in the first month under a promotion running until 31 December 2026; **Oferta 5** (5 € credit) has 75 GB ([Vodafone](https://www.vodafone.ro/cartela-vodafone)).
- **Digi's** prepaid options (for example, DIGI Național 5: unlimited national data, slowed after 200 GB, for 5 € a month plus VAT) are built around the former Telekom prepaid customers it took over in 2025–2026, and the only new prepaid SIM it sells online is an eSIM for 14- to 25-year-olds ([Digi options](https://www.digi.ro/oferta-prepaid-optiuni), [Digi eSIM](https://www.digi.ro/prepaid-esim)). For most visitors, Orange or Vodafone is simpler.

Orange and Vodafone price prepaid credit in euros, which you pay in lei; Vodafone says VAT is included when you buy the SIM or top up. Digi quotes its prepaid prices without VAT.

## Where to live for a month or longer

*A monthly RATBV pass, 110 lei, covers every city line, including bus 20 to Poiana Brașov.*

For a short stay the Old Town is hard to beat, but for a month or more it's worth looking at the districts around it, where flats are cheaper and quieter and the bus takes you to the centre in minutes. A monthly RATBV pass costs 110 lei and covers every city line ([RATBV fares](https://ratbv.ro/tarife-trasee-urbane-si-metropolitane/)).

| Area | Why stay | Getting to the centre | Coworking nearby |
|---|---|---|---|
| **Old Town (Centrul Vechi)** | Everything on foot; the Tâmpa trails start behind the walls | You're in it | Kool Work, Stoneskip House |
| **Livada Poștei and Brașovechi** | Just north of the Old Town; Livada Poștei is the stop for the airport bus (A1) and bus 20 to Poiana | 5–10 minutes on foot | Simplicity Hub |
| **Centrul Nou** | Between the Old Town and the train station | Bus 4 runs from the station through Centrul Nou to Livada Poștei and the Black Church | Digital Nomads Hub, Hub 1317 |
| **Tractorul and Coresi** | Newer blocks around Coresi Shopping Resort and Parcul Tractorul | Buses 2 and 2B to Livada Poștei | – |
| **Astra** | Large residential district with a daily market | Bus 14 to Livada Poștei | – |
| **Bartolomeu** | North-west of the centre, with its own market | Bus 14 from Bisericii Române to Livada Poștei | Maccollab |
| **Poiana Brașov** | Skiing and hiking from the door | Bus 20 to Livada Poștei, about 25 minutes | – |

Bus routes are from the [RATBV timetables](https://ratbv.ro/trasee-si-orare/); the markets are in our [farmers' markets guide](https://wowbrasov.com/en/farmers-markets-of-brasov).

**Old Town flats** are often in old buildings with steep stairs and no lift, and streets near Piața Sfatului can be loud on weekend nights and during events. **Șchei**, south-west of the walls, is another option if you don't mind walking uphill on cobbles on the way home.

## What a month costs

| Item | Monthly cost |
|---|---|
| One-bedroom flat, city centre | 3,274 lei (range 2,670–3,610) |
| One-bedroom flat, outside the centre | 2,231 lei (range 1,800–2,937) |
| Utilities for an 85 m² flat | 852 lei |
| Home broadband (60 Mbps or more) | 43.44 lei |
| Prepaid mobile with unlimited national data | 6 € credit |
| RATBV monthly bus pass | 110 lei |
| Coworking, dedicated desk | €140–150 (+ VAT at Digital Nomads Hub) |
| Gym membership | 275 lei |
| Other living costs for one person, excluding rent | about 3,417 lei |

Rent, utilities, broadband, the gym and the living-cost estimate are crowd-sourced averages from [Numbeo](https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/in/Brasov), last updated on 2 October 2026 (50 contributors over the past year); the rest are from the operators' own websites, checked on 10 October 2026. Listing site Storia put average asking rents in Brașov in March 2026 at €360 for a studio, €520 for a two-room flat and €650 for three rooms ([Capital, April 2026](https://www.capital.ro/orasul-cu-cele-mai-scumpe-chirii-din-romania-cat-platesc-locuitorii-din-bucuresti-si-cluj-napoca.html)). In Romanian listings a two-room flat (*2 camere*) has a living room and one bedroom.

## Visas and registration

This is a summary of the official rules, not legal advice. Check the current requirements with the Romanian consulate or the immigration office before you travel.

### EU, EEA and Swiss citizens

You can enter with a valid ID card or passport and stay under EU free-movement rules. If you stay in Romania **longer than three months**, you must register your residence and get a registration certificate (*certificat de înregistrare*) from the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI) ([IGI](https://igi.mai.gov.ro/en/admission/)). If you work remotely for a foreign employer or your own foreign company, the closest category is residence based on means of support, for which IGI lists the application form, your ID or passport, proof of sufficient means and proof of health insurance ([IGI, EU/EEA citizens](https://igi.mai.gov.ro/en/citizens-of-eu-eea/)).

The **Brașov immigration office** (Serviciul pentru Imigrări al Județului Brașov) is at Strada Nicolae Titulescu 28, building C, ground floor; phone 0268 409 956, email bv.igi@mai.gov.ro. Applications are taken Monday to Friday 08:30–15:30 by appointment through the IGI online portal, and documents are handed out 15:30–16:30 (until 18:30 on Wednesdays) ([IGI Brașov](https://igi.mai.gov.ro/en/immigration-bureau-of-the-county-brasov/)).

### Short stays for everyone else

Romania has been a full member of the Schengen area since 1 January 2025, when checks at its land borders were lifted ([Council Decision (EU) 2024/3212](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/dec/2024/3212/oj)). Citizens of visa-exempt countries can stay for **up to 90 days in any 180-day period**, counted across the whole Schengen area; citizens of other countries need a Schengen visa ([Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs](https://www.mae.ro/node/2040)).

### Romania's digital nomad visa

Since January 2022 Romania has issued a long-stay visa for digital nomads, set out in Government Emergency Ordinance 194/2002 on foreigners ([consolidated text published by IGI](https://igi.mai.gov.ro/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/ORDONANTA-DE-URGENTA-nr.-194-din-12-decembrie-2002-1.pdf)). According to the ordinance:

- **Who qualifies:** a non-EU citizen who works under an employment contract for a company registered outside Romania, or who owns such a company, and does the work remotely using information and communication technology.
- **Income:** at least **three times Romania's average gross monthly wage**, earned from that work, for each of the six months before you apply and for the whole period of the visa. The national statistics office put the average gross wage at **9,709 lei in July 2026** ([INS, 11 September 2026](https://insse.ro/cms/sites/default/files/com_presa/com_pdf/cs07r26.pdf)), which would make the threshold about 29,100 lei a month; ask the consulate which reference figure it applies to your application.
- **Other documents:** medical insurance for the length of the visa, proof of accommodation, and a criminal record certificate from your home country.
- **Where to apply:** at the Romanian embassy or consulate responsible for your place of residence.
- **Staying on:** once in Romania you can apply to IGI for a temporary residence permit, which is marked "nomad digital". To extend it, you must again show an income of at least three times the average gross wage for the period you're asking for.

Tax is a separate question: the visa doesn't decide where you pay income tax, so get advice if you'll spend more than six months of the year in Romania.

### Longer stays for other reasons

If you'll be employed by a Romanian company, study or join family in Romania, there are other long-stay visas and residence permits; see [IGI's residence permit pages](https://igi.mai.gov.ro/en/residence-permit/).

## Healthcare and pharmacies

- **Emergencies:** call **112**. Brașov's main emergency department is at the **Spitalul Clinic Județean de Urgență** (county emergency hospital), Calea București 25–27; switchboard 0268 320 022 ([SCJU Brașov](https://scjubv.ro/)).
- **EU and EEA citizens:** bring your European Health Insurance Card, which covers medically necessary state healthcare on the same terms as for people insured in Romania ([Your Europe](https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/health/unplanned-healthcare/temporary-stays/index_en.htm)). Everyone else needs travel or international health insurance, which the digital nomad visa requires anyway.
- **Private clinics:** the private healthcare networks [Regina Maria](https://www.reginamaria.ro/clinici/brasov) and MedLife both have clinics in Brașov; with international insurance, check in advance whether your insurer works with them directly.
- **Pharmacies** (*farmacie*): for night-time, Catena's **non-stop pharmacy** is at Strada 13 Decembrie 117, next to the Tractorul hospital ([Catena](https://www.catena.ro/farmacii-catena-cu-program-non-stop), list updated 21 January 2026).

## Community and meetups

No regular, public meetup for remote workers in Brașov is listed online. Nomads.com listed no upcoming meetups in the city when we checked on 10 October 2026 ([Nomads.com](https://nomads.com/meetups/brasov)), and Digital Nomads Hub mentions members-only events for its own users. Concerts, festivals and fairs are the easier way to meet people: see [what's on in Brașov](https://wowbrasov.com/en/whats-on-in-brasov).

## Getting away at the weekend

Brașov's biggest advantage over a capital city is what's an hour away. Our day-trip guides have the timetables and prices:

- **[Bran Castle](https://wowbrasov.com/en/how-to-reach-bran-castle-from-brasov):** hourly buses from Autogara 2, about 55 minutes.
- **[Peleș Castle](https://wowbrasov.com/en/discovering-peles-castle-a-magnificent-romanian-landmark):** about an hour by train to Sinaia, then an uphill walk.
- **[Seven Ladders Canyon](https://wowbrasov.com/en/seven-ladders-canyon-brasov-guide):** bus 17B to Dâmbul Morii, then about an hour on foot.
- **[LiBearty Bear Sanctuary](https://wowbrasov.com/en/libearty-bear-sanctuary-zarnesti-guide)** near Zărnești, 27 km away.
- **[Sibiu](https://wowbrasov.com/en/how-to-travel-from-brasov-to-sibiu):** 2 h 50 by InterRegio train, worth a weekend on its own.
- **[Skiing](https://wowbrasov.com/en/skiing-near-brasov)** in Poiana Brașov, on the city bus network.

More ideas are in our [day trips from Brașov](https://wowbrasov.com/en/day-trips-from-brasov) hub.
