On a rainy day in Brașov, start in the Old Town: the **Black Church** (30 lei) and the **History Museum in Casa Sfatului** (12 lei) are a few minutes apart. In the afternoon, swim at **Paradisul Acvatic** or see a film at **AFI Brașov** or **Coresi Shopping Resort**. Most museums are closed on Mondays.

Rain in Brașov usually comes as afternoon thunderstorms from May to August and as grey, drizzly days in spring and late autumn; our [weather and best time to visit guide](https://wowbrasov.com/en/the-weather-and-seasons-in-brasov) has the month-by-month numbers. If the problem is cold rather than rain, see our guide to [Brașov in winter](https://wowbrasov.com/en/what-to-do-on-a-cold-day-in-brasov).

## A rainy day in Brașov: a simple plan

1. **Morning (Old Town, on foot):** the Black Church when it opens, then Casa Sfatului in the middle of Piața Sfatului. Add the Weavers' Bastion or one of the small museums on the square.
2. **Lunch:** a long, warm lunch in the Old Town (see below).
3. **Afternoon:** Paradisul Acvatic for a swim and the saunas, or a mall with a cinema.
4. **Evening:** on Saturdays in summer, an organ concert in the Black Church at 18:00 (the 2026 series ran from 6 June to 17 October).

On Mondays most museums are closed, but the Black Church opens at 12:00 and the malls at 10:00. Both malls, AFI Brașov and Coresi Shopping Resort, are open every day from 10:00 to 22:00.

The **Brașov Visit Ticket** covers 12 sites, including the Black Church, the History Museum, the Weavers' Bastion, the Art, Ethnography and Urban Civilisation museums, Casa Mureșenilor and the First Romanian School, with one visit to each within 90 days. It costs 57.76 lei for adults on [booktes.com](https://booktes.com/bilet/brasov-visit-ticket?id=10ce673c70ba10bb1422e387f4954581) and pays off if you visit three or more of the bigger ones: the Black Church, the Museum of Urban Civilisation and the History Museum cost 62 lei separately.

### The Black Church

Brașov's Gothic Lutheran church is the obvious first stop: it's big, it's dry, and its collection of Ottoman-era Anatolian carpets hangs along the walls. Tickets cost 30 lei for adults, 25 lei for students and pensioners, 20 lei for school pupils up to 18, and children under 7 go in free.

From 16 October to the end of March it opens Tuesday to Saturday 10:00–18:00 and Sunday and Monday 12:00–18:00, and from 1 April to 15 October it stays open until 19:00. It closes for about two hours during concerts, christenings and weddings, and on 1 January and 25 December. The "Organ Nights" concerts run on Saturdays at 18:00 from June to mid-October, for 35 lei and free for under-18s. ### Casa Sfatului, the Weavers' Bastion and the Old Town museums

The old town hall in the middle of Piața Sfatului houses the **County History Museum** (12 lei). About ten minutes' walk away, on the city walls under Tâmpa, the **Weavers' Bastion** (10 lei) holds the museum's permanent exhibition "Brașov/3M". Both open Tuesday to Sunday 10:00–18:00, with the last tickets at 17:30, and close on Mondays.

On the square itself, the **Museum of Urban Civilisation**, at Piața Sfatului 15, shows how the town's merchants and craftsmen lived, in an old house on the square, and **Casa Mureșenilor**, at Piața Sfatului 25, tells the story of the Mureșianu family, whose relative Andrei Mureșanu wrote the words of Romania's national anthem.

A short walk away, side by side on Bulevardul Eroilor, are the **Ethnography Museum** and the **Art Museum**. Our guide to [the best museums in Brașov](https://wowbrasov.com/en/discovering-the-best-museums-in-brasov-exploring-the-citys-cultural-heritage) covers each of them in more detail.

## The malls: AFI Brașov and Coresi Shopping Resort

Both malls are open every day, so they are the safe choice on a wet Monday or a Sunday evening.

**AFI Brașov**, at Bd. 15 Noiembrie 78, is the closer one, about 10 minutes from the Old Town. It has around 150 shops and a hypermarket over 45,000 m², a food court, a **Cinema City** multiplex with 8 screens, the **Gymboland** indoor play area for children on the second floor, and the **Game Over** arcade. Shops are open Monday to Sunday 10:00–22:00.

Buses from the Old Town: 1, 4, 6, 17, 31, 34, 34B and 37; from the train station: 4, 32 and 35. Children under 14 must be with an adult.

**Coresi Shopping Resort**, at Str. Zaharia Stancu 1, is in the north of the city, on the site of the former Tractorul factory. The shopping gallery is open daily 10:00–22:00 and the Auchan hypermarket 07:00–22:00. The cinema is **Cinema One**. Buses 2 and 2B run from Livada Poștei, on the edge of the Old Town, to the Coresi stop.

Don't expect bargains: both malls have the international chains you know from home. For local shopping, walk down Strada Republicii in the Old Town or visit one of the [food markets](https://wowbrasov.com/en/farmers-markets-of-brasov). For the shops in each mall, parking, holiday hours and the Star department store by the Old Town, see our [guide to the shopping malls in Brașov](https://wowbrasov.com/en/shopping-centres-in-brasov).

## Cafés and comfort food

A long lunch is a fine way to sit out a storm. In and around the Old Town, **Tipografia**, on Str. Postăvarului 1, is a café and bar; **Dr. Jekelius**, on Str. Michael Weiss 13, is a café styled as an old pharmacy, open until midnight every day; and **Croitoria de Cafea**, on Bd. Iuliu Maniu 17, is a small specialty coffee bar, open on weekdays.

For a warming lunch, order *ciorbă* (sour soup), *bulz* (polenta baked with cheese) or *papanași* (fried cheese doughnuts with sour cream and jam) in one of the restaurants around Piața Sfatului.

## Bran Castle in the rain

A castle visit is mostly indoors, so a wet day is a reasonable day for **Bran**: only the walk up from the road and the inner courtyard are in the open. See our guides to [getting to Bran Castle from Brașov](https://wowbrasov.com/en/how-to-reach-bran-castle-from-brasov) and to [the castle itself](https://wowbrasov.com/en/bran-castle-unraveling-the-history-and-legends-of-draculas-fortress-in-transylvania) for buses, tickets and hours.

## With children

- **Planetarium** at Brașov Zoo (Str. Brazilor 1, Noua): shows Tuesday to Sunday, 35 lei for adults and 15 lei for children; shows are in Romanian and suit children over 5 or 10, depending on the show.
- **Gymboland** play area at AFI Brașov, and the cinemas at both malls.
- **Paradisul Acvatic**, with its age rules above.
