[Zile și Nopți](https://zilesinopti.ro/2026/01/09/restaurante-din-brasov/), the national city-listings guide, included it in its January 2026 selection of Brașov restaurants, describing a classic French experience with dishes rarely found elsewhere in the city and prices above the local average. The [In Your Pocket](https://www.inyourpocket.com/brasov/poarta-schei-4_72970v) city guide notes a long champagne list and occasional live music.

## Also recommended: Bistro de l'Arte

*Recommended by 50 Best Discovery.*

**Bistro de l'Arte** is the only Brașov restaurant we found on [50 Best Discovery](https://www.theworlds50best.com/discovery/Establishments/Romania/Bra%C8%99ov/Bistro-de-lArte.html), the recommendation guide of The World's 50 Best Restaurants. The listing praises its unfussy bistro cooking based on local produce, served in a vaulted brick and stone room off a cobbled alley in the Old Town. On [its own website](https://bistrodelarte.ro/) the bistro says it is in its 26th year, which makes it one of the oldest restaurants opened in Brașov since the 1990s, and that its chef and co-owner, Oana Coantă, was named Woman Chef of the Year by Gault&Millau.

- **Address:** Piața George Enescu 11 bis, Old Town ([map](https://maps.app.goo.gl/aMCmWaRwZhgGtnPf9)).
- **Hours:** Monday to Sunday, 12:00–23:00.
- **Prices:** the menu on its website lists soups at 28–32 lei, mains at 45–75 lei and desserts at 12–32 lei, and it posts a short menu of the day; on 10 October 2026 that included a cabbage and sausage soup for 28 lei and a pork stew with prunes and fried polenta for 57 lei ([menu](https://bistrodelarte.ro/meniul-nostru/)).
- **Booking:** by phone on 0720 535 566 or with the form on its website. The bistro says a booking is confirmed only when you receive its confirmation email, that it holds a table for up to 15 minutes, and that tables are booked for 1 hour 50 minutes.

## With a view: Restaurant Panoramic on Tâmpa

The **Restaurant Panoramic** sits next to the upper station of the Tâmpa cable car, at about 960 m, with the whole Old Town below. It has been there since 1975 and reopened in October 2025 with the modernised cable car. Chef Doru Bar's à la carte menu mixes Romanian and international dishes and has vegetarian options ([menu](https://www.flipbookpdf.net/web/site/6467ea42e15a16ae99e05d5bebad14fcaf4a6bb2FBP32833491.pdf.html)).

- **Getting there:** the Tâmpa cable car (45 lei return) or a 75–90 minute walk up; there's no road. See our [Tâmpa guide](https://wowbrasov.com/en/tampa-cable-car-brasov#restaurant-panoramic-at-the-top).
- **Hours:** Monday 14:00–22:00, Tuesday to Thursday and Sunday 12:00–22:00, Friday and Saturday 12:00–22:30. The café and terrace serves coffee and light snacks daily 10:30–18:00 (Monday from 12:30).
- **Booking:** recommended at weekends and for sunset: 0372 667 711 (also WhatsApp), or [book online](https://www.panoramicbrasov.ro/rezervari-online).

## How eating out works in Brașov

### Booking

Book for Friday and Saturday dinners, and for any evening in December, when the [Christmas market](https://wowbrasov.com/en/brasov-christmas-market) fills Piața Sfatului, and on ski-season weekends. All three of our favourites take bookings by phone.

### Lunch and the menu of the day

Many Romanian restaurants offer a *meniul zilei* (menu of the day) at lunchtime, often a soup and a main at a set price on weekdays; others, like Bistro de l'Arte, simply publish a short list of daily dishes priced one by one. Ask for it if you don't see it.

### Reading the menu

Menus in Romania list the weight of each dish in grams, as all four menus we checked for this guide do. Side dishes are often priced separately from the main: on the One Soul and Monark menus, garnishes and sauces cost extra. Ask the price of anything sold by weight, such as fish or steak, before you order.

### Tipping and paying

Around 10% is the usual tip for table service when you're happy; for a coffee or a drink at the bar, rounding up is enough. Since 2023 restaurants have had to record tips separately on the fiscal receipt, with 10% income tax withheld for the staff, and you can tip by card as well as in cash ([Economedia, February 2024](https://economedia.ro/exclusiv-esec-dupa-primul-an-cu-bacsis-fiscalizat-impozitul-colectat-a-fost-sub-30-de-milioane-de-lei-o-treime-din-cea-mai-pesimista-estimare-a-guvernului-si-chiar-mai-mic-decat-amenzile-aplicate-de.html)). In practice that means telling the waiter the amount or percentage before they print the bill or run your card.

### What a meal costs

| | Price |
|---|---|
| Meal at an inexpensive restaurant | 52.50 lei (range 40–107 lei) |
| Three-course dinner for two, mid-range restaurant, no drinks | 250 lei (range 200–450 lei) |
| Local draught beer, 0.5 l | 15 lei |
| Cappuccino | 17.29 lei |
| Main course at Bistro de l'Arte | 45–75 lei |
| Main course at One Soul | 88–195 lei |
| Main course at Monark | Mostly 52–199 lei |

The first four rows are crowd-sourced averages from [Numbeo](https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/in/Brasov), updated on 2 October 2026; the rest are from the restaurants' own menus, checked on 10 October 2026.

## Where to find restaurants

*Terraces line the pedestrian streets of the Old Town from spring to autumn.*

- **Piața Sfatului and the Old Town.** The main square has restaurant terraces along its sides, and more line the pedestrian streets around it. One Soul and Poarta Schei 4 are on the south side of the Old Town, towards the Șchei Gate, and Bistro de l'Arte is on Piața George Enescu, a couple of minutes' walk north-east of the square. Compare a couple of menus before you sit down on the square itself.
- **Strada Republicii.** The pedestrian main street runs north-east from Piața Sfatului towards Bulevardul Eroilor, with cafés and restaurants along the way; it's the easiest place for a coffee or a quick lunch between sights.
- **Șchei.** The old Romanian quarter beyond the Șchei Gate is mainly residential. Eat in the Old Town and walk up for the St Nicholas Church and the First Romanian School afterwards (see our [museums guide](https://wowbrasov.com/en/discovering-the-best-museums-in-brasov-exploring-the-citys-cultural-heritage)).
- **Coresi.** The newer district in the north-east, built on the site of the old Tractorul factory, has Monark and the Coresi Shopping Resort; it's worth the bus ride for dinner, less so for a quick bite.
- **Poiana Brașov.** The mountain resort has a smaller choice than the city. Bus 20 runs up from Livada Poștei every 20 minutes during the day, and the last bus down leaves at 23:59 ([RATBV](https://www.ratbv.ro/afisaje/20-dus.html)); for the slopes, see [skiing near Brașov](https://wowbrasov.com/en/skiing-near-brasov).

For food to take home, such as sheep's cheese, smoked meats and honey, head for the [farmers' markets](https://wowbrasov.com/en/farmers-markets-of-brasov). On a wet day, our [rainy-day guide](https://wowbrasov.com/en/what-to-do-in-brasov-on-a-rainy-day) pairs a long lunch with indoor sights.
