Privacy policy

Wow Brașov has no accounts, newsletter or comments; the only form is the contact form. This page explains the little data that is processed when you read the site: by our host, our visitor statistics, Google's ads and the weather tools.

Last updated:

The short version

  • We don't collect your name or email address unless you send us a message through the contact form.
  • We count visits with Umami, a cookieless statistics tool we run ourselves. It doesn't identify you, and we don't set cookies ourselves.
  • Ads come from Google AdSense. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, Google asks for your consent before using cookies for personalised ads, and you can change your choice at any time: .
  • The weather tools fetch forecasts from Open-Meteo for fixed points in Brașov and Poiana. We never ask for your location.
  • Your browser remembers one setting for us: whether you chose light or dark mode.

Who is responsible

Wow Brașov (wowbrasov.com) is published by Cinch Software S.R.L., a company registered in Romania, which is the controller for the processing described here. For anything about your data, use our contact form.

Hosting and server logs

The site is hosted by Netlify, Inc. (USA) and delivered through its network. Like any web server, Netlify processes technical data for each request: your IP address, browser and device type, the page you asked for, the page you came from and the time. This is needed to deliver the pages, keep the service secure and find errors. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Netlify keeps these logs under its own privacy policy.

The Poiana Brașov today page gets the slope and lift status through a small function on Netlify that reads Brașov City Hall's public status page. Your browser only talks to our site for that; nothing about you is passed on to City Hall.

Visitor statistics: Umami

To see which guides people read, we use Umami, an open-source statistics tool that we host ourselves at analytics.wipick.se, delivered through Cloudflare. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. For each page view it records the page address, the page you came from, your browser, operating system, device type, screen size and language, and your country, which is worked out from your IP address. The IP address itself isn't stored. Visits in one session are grouped with an anonymous identifier made from a one-way hash with a salt that changes regularly, so you can't be recognised across longer periods or other websites. We see only totals, and the data isn't shared with anyone. When you send the contact form, we also count that a message was sent and its topic, but not its content. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used so we can improve it (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Advertising: Google AdSense

Ads on this site are placed automatically by Google AdSense, run by Google Ireland Limited for visitors in the EEA and Switzerland and by Google LLC elsewhere. The ad code loads a few seconds after the page, so the guide appears first.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on those visits.
  • Google and its partners also use cookies and similar identifiers to limit how often you see an ad, measure how ads perform and prevent fraud.
  • In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, a consent message from Google (a certified consent management platform under the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework) asks for your consent first. The legal basis for personalised ads is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR and the ePrivacy rules). If you don't consent, Google can still show non-personalised or limited ads, as described in its policies.
  • You can change or withdraw your choice at any time: . The link is also at the bottom of every page.
  • You can turn off personalised ads from Google in My Ad Center, and from many other ad companies at youronlinechoices.eu.
  • How Google uses information from sites that show its ads: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Weather and live tools

On What to wear today, the weather widgets and Poiana Brașov today, your browser asks Open-Meteo (OpenMeteo GmbH, Switzerland) for forecasts and air-quality data for fixed coordinates in Brașov and Poiana Brașov. Open-Meteo receives your IP address and browser details, as any website you connect to does. We don't send it anything about you, and we never ask for your location. See Open-Meteo's terms and privacy information.

The webcam page only links to the cameras' own websites; no video is loaded from them on our pages.

Search

The site search runs inside your browser. What you type is not sent to us or to anyone else.

What is stored in your browser

  • theme (local storage): saved only if you use the light/dark switch, so the site remembers your choice. It stays until you clear your browser's site data and is never sent to us.
  • Google's consent and advertising cookies, as described above.

Links, maps and sharing

Our guides link to maps, official websites, ticket and booking pages and social networks. The share buttons are plain links: nothing is loaded from WhatsApp, Facebook or X until you click one, and from then on their own privacy policies apply. "Copy link" only uses your clipboard.

If you use the contact form

The form sends us your name, email address, topic, message and, if you came from a guide, that page's address. A small function on Netlify checks the message for spam and passes it to Postmark (ActiveCampaign, LLC, USA), which delivers it to our mailbox on Google Workspace. We use your details only to reply, keep the conversation for as long as we need it to deal with your request, and never add you to a mailing list. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering readers' messages (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). To stop spam, the form also uses a short-lived token and a hidden field, and Netlify limits how often one connection can send it.

Transfers outside the EU

Netlify, Google, Postmark and Cloudflare may process data in the United States. These transfers rely on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework, where the company is certified under it, or on the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. Open-Meteo is in Switzerland, which the European Commission recognises as offering adequate protection.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask for access to your data, and for it to be corrected, deleted, restricted or transferred, and you can object to processing based on legitimate interest. You can withdraw consent at any time, without affecting what happened before. Because we hold almost no data about you, most requests concern data held by Google or Netlify; write to us and we'll help you reach the right place.

You can also complain to Romania's data protection authority, ANSPDCP, or to the authority in the country where you live.

Children

The site is written for a general audience and is not aimed at children. We don't knowingly collect data about children.

Changes to this policy

We update this page when the site changes, for example when we add a tool or an ad partner, and change the date at the top.
