Brașov Welcomes Over a Million Visitors in First Nine Months of 2025
Visitor Momentum in 2025
Fresh data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS), relayed by BizBrașov, shows that the city welcomed 1.045 million tourist arrivals between January and September 2025—an all-time high for the period. That performance keeps Brașov firmly in the nation’s top three destinations, just behind seaside Constanța and the capital, Bucharest. Overnight stays also climbed past 1.98 million, with visitors lingering for an average of two nights.
The county’s ability to maintain momentum even as national arrivals dipped by 1.8% versus 2024 demonstrates how year-round programming, new flight connections, and diversified accommodation options continue to pay off. Hoteliers reported a net occupancy rate of 30.8% across Romania for the period, underscoring room to lift utilisation with better shoulder-season offerings—an area where Brașov’s mix of mountain sports and cultural events provides a competitive edge.
International Interest Keeps Rising
Domestic travellers still represent the lion’s share of demand—82.2% of arrivals and 83.3% of overnight stays—but international guests continue to grow their footprint. Germany (194,800 visitors), Italy (162,200 visitors), and Israel (124,100 visitors) topped the charts for foreign arrivals in the first nine months of the year, highlighting the strength of Brașov’s traditional feeder markets.
September alone delivered 1.261 million arrivals nationwide, with foreign travellers accounting for 21.7% of stays during that month. With Wizz Air adding more links out of Brașov-Ghimbav Airport for winter 2025/26 and more boutique lodging projects in the pipeline, local operators see a clear opportunity to capture longer itineraries from neighbouring European capitals.
Seasonal Outlook & Next Steps
City officials and hospitality leaders are leaning into the busy holiday season with Christmas markets, culinary pop-ups, and expanded ski services in Poiana Brașov. The goal: convert the short, two-night average stay into extended weekends that support local restaurants, guides, and cultural venues.
For visitors planning a winter escape, the current momentum means more frequent flights, refreshed accommodation options, and a calendar packed with alpine and urban experiences. We’ll keep you posted as occupancy trends evolve and new infrastructure projects—like improved slope access and mobility upgrades—move ahead.
