Peleș Castle is closed from 2 November to 1 December 2026, so a Bran-and-Peleș day works only until Sunday 1 November and again after the reopening. Pelișor Castle is closed until 3 November.
Yes, you can see Bran and Peleș in one day from Brașov by car, from Wednesday to Sunday only. The loop is about 125 km and 2 h 35 min of driving, with Peleș first on a timed ticket. Adult tickets cost 100 lei at each castle, so 200 lei (about €40) for the pair.

Peleș is closed for cleaning and conservation from 2 November to 1 December 2026. That leaves the days until Sunday 1 November, and then December onwards. Without a car you ride the train from Brașov to Sinaia, come back to Brașov and take the Transbus bus to Bran. The only direct Sinaia–Bran services listed are private minibuses with unclear terms, described below, so the reliable route doubles back through Brașov. That makes a day of about 11 hours.
Opening days, prices and closures were checked on the two castles’ websites on 16 October 2026. This guide is part of our day trips from Brașov; each castle has its own guide, for Peleș and for Bran.
| Option | Day length | Transport cost (adult) | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|
| Own car | about 9 h | Fuel and parking | The easiest way to do both |
| Train and bus | about 11 h | 59–85 lei | Possible Thursday to Sunday; one missed connection breaks it |
| Taxi or private driver | about 9 h | Needs a quote for the whole day | Works for three or four people if the driver waits at both castles |
| Day tour | 12–14 h | From about €35, plus tickets | The combined tours we found start in Bucharest, not Brașov |
Is it worth doing both in one day?
Yes, if you have a car and a free day between Wednesday and Sunday. The two castles are different enough that the second one does not repeat the first. Bran is a small medieval border fortress that became Queen Marie’s summer home in the 1920s. Peleș is a royal palace built for King Carol I between 1873 and 1914, known for its carved wood, stained glass and armour.
The price is the driving: about 2 h 35 min without traffic, so you are away from Brașov for roughly nine hours.
By train and bus it is just about possible, from Thursday to Sunday. Peleș is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and its last entry is 16:00.
Skip the double if you can only travel on a Monday or Tuesday, when Peleș is shut, or if you are using public transport and have a second day, in which case give each castle its own day. Our guides to getting to Bran by bus and to Peleș by train cover each trip on its own. And if you are coming to Bran for Dracula, our Bran Castle guide explains why that link is thin.
Dates that work in 2026
| Dates | Peleș | Bran | Both in one day? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Until Sunday 1 November | Open Wednesday to Sunday | Open daily; Halloween programme from 24 October to 1 November | Yes, Wednesday to Sunday |
| 2 November to 1 December | Closed for conservation | Open, last entry 18:00 | No |
| From 2 December | Reopens after the closure (check the date on peles.ro) | Open, last entry 18:00 | Yes, Wednesday to Sunday |
- Peleș opening days: Wednesday 10:00–17:00, Thursday to Sunday 09:15–17:00, closed Monday and Tuesday. Last entry is 16:00 (peles.ro).
- Pelișor (the smaller palace next door) is closed until 3 November and reopens on 4 November, but Peleș is closed from 2 November, so it is no substitute for Peleș.
- Bran opening days: Tuesday to Sunday 09:00–19:00 and Monday 12:00–19:00 until 1 November; from 2 November, 09:00–18:00 and Monday from 12:00. These are last-entry times (bran-castle.com).
- Bran Halloween: from 24 October to 1 November the castle runs a themed programme with different prices. The themed tour costs from 100 lei on 24–30 October and from 300 lei on 31 October, and 1 November is a family day.
Which castle first?
Peleș first. It is the castle with the hard limits: a timed ticket, a daily cap of 2,000 visitors, two closed days a week and a last entry of 16:00. Bran has no weekly closing day and takes visitors until 19:00, or 18:00 from 2 November, so it can absorb a late arrival.
The route also ends on the short DN73 leg back to Brașov, instead of the DN1 through the Prahova Valley, which our Peleș guide notes is often slow in the evening on weekends.
You can reverse the order: Bran opens at 09:00, and you can book the 12:45–14:30 or 14:30–16:00 slot at Peleș. The cost is that the 16:00 cut-off then sits at the end of the day, with nothing in hand if the drive from Bran takes longer than planned.
A timed plan by car from Brașov
This plan uses the 09:15–11:00 slot, which is open Thursday to Sunday. On a Wednesday Peleș opens at 10:00, so leave Brașov at 08:15 and book the 10:00–12:45 slot.
| Time | Step | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| 07:30 | Leave Brașov | 45.6 km to the Peleș entrance on Aleea Peleșului, 57 min without traffic. Allow 1 h 15 min |
| 08:45 | Park in Sinaia and walk up | The museum has no car park of its own. It is an 800 m walk, 10–15 minutes, up a sloping alley through the Royal Park |
| 09:15 | Peleș, ground floor and first floor | Go in during your booked window. The museum does not publish how long the visit takes; this plan allows 90 minutes |
| 11:00 | Walk down and drive to Bran | 48.6 km via the DN1 to Predeal, then the DN73A and DN73 past Râșnov, which bypasses Brașov. 63 min without traffic, so allow 1 h 20 min |
| 12:30 | Park in Bran and have lunch | The castle restaurant is open daily 09:00–20:00 (Mondays from 12:00) and does not need a castle ticket |
| 13:15 | Bran Castle and Royal Park | Standard Tour, 1–2 hours |
| 15:30 | Drive back to Brașov | 30.7 km on the DN73, 35 min without traffic |
| 16:15 | Back in Brașov | About 9 hours door to door |
A later start works too. Book the 11:00–12:45 slot at Peleș and shift every time above by about two hours: you reach Bran around 14:30, and its last entry is 19:00 (18:00 from 2 November).
Distances and driving times
| Leg | Distance | Driving time, no traffic |
|---|---|---|
| Brașov (Piața Sfatului) to Bran Castle | 30.7 km | 35 min |
| Brașov (Piața Sfatului) to Peleș, Aleea Peleșului | 45.6 km | 57 min |
| Bran Castle to Peleș, Aleea Peleșului | 48.6 km | 63 min |
| The whole loop | about 125 km | about 2 h 35 min |
These come from OpenStreetMap routing (OSRM), checked on 16 October 2026; two public OSRM servers gave the same figures. Traffic is not included. You can open each leg yourself: Brașov to Bran, Bran to Peleș and Brașov to Peleș. Bran Castle gives the same 30 km and about 35 minutes for Brașov to Bran. Bran to Peleș is almost as far as Brașov to Peleș, because the road goes by Râșnov and Predeal, not through Brașov.
Parking
Neither castle publishes a parking price.
- Peleș: the museum does not run a car park for visitors. The parking areas on the Royal Estate are run by others, and the museum puts the walk to the castle at about 800 m, 10–15 minutes, on a sloping alley. Cars can drive up to the castle only for visitors with disabilities (peles.ro).
- Bran: the castle does not operate parking either. There are several paid spaces in the area around Strada General Traian Moșoiu 24, and each charges its own fee (bran-castle.com).
You also need the road vignette (rovinietă) for national roads; rental cars normally have one. Our Bucharest guide explains how to buy it.
By train and bus
This works from Thursday to Sunday, with Peleș first. There is no scheduled direct bus or train between the two castles that we could confirm, so the route doubles back through Brașov.
| Time | Step | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| 07:35 | Train Brașov to Sinaia | 58–72 min. On Saturday 10 October 2026, trains left every 15–40 minutes between 07:30 and 12:00. Regio 14.50 lei, InterRegio 27.50 lei, second class |
| 08:40 | Walk up from Sinaia station | Uphill through the town, past Sinaia Monastery and along the park alley: at least 30 minutes |
| 09:15 | Peleș | Your booked window runs 09:15–11:00 |
| 11:30 | Walk back down, train to Brașov | Allow 30 minutes down. The train takes about an hour; choose one that reaches Brașov by 13:30 |
| 13:45 | Bus from Autogara 1 | Transbus, from beside the railway station, 15 lei. It reaches Bran Centru Castel at 14:54 |
| 15:00 | Bran Castle | The stop is near the main entrance |
| 17:38 | Bus Bran to Brașov | 37 min, 15 lei. Buses leave at :38 every hour, the last at 19:38 |
| 18:15 | Back in Brașov | About 11 hours in all |
The cost per adult is 59 lei in transport with two Regio trains and two buses, or 85 lei with InterRegio trains. Add 200 lei for the two tickets.
- Bran first can work: the 08:45 bus from Autogara 1 reaches Bran at 09:54, the 11:38 bus brings you back to Brașov at 12:15, and a train to Sinaia gets you to Peleș for the 14:30–16:00 slot. But then the 16:00 cut-off sits at the end of a chain of connections.
- Minibuses from Sinaia to Bran: Autogari.ro lists private minibuses from Sinaia railway station (Calea Prahovei) to Bran, from JetCab, ViaElite, Robus and Transfer Low Cost. They take 1 h 28 min to 1 h 47 min, and the only price shown is 200 lei, for JetCab. They look like long-distance shuttles that call at Sinaia, so ask the operator whether they take a passenger for this leg, and at what price, before you rely on one (Autogari.ro).
- Getting to the bus: Autogara 1 is next to Brașov railway station; the same buses leave Autogara 2 on the hour. Our Bran transport guide covers the stops, the return buses and the taxi option.

|---|---|---|
| Adult | 100 lei | 100 lei |
| Pensioner or senior | 50 lei | 70 lei (65+, with ID) |
| Pupil or student | 25 lei | 60 lei (student card) |

- Peleș is timed. Slots on Thursday to Sunday are 09:15–11:00, 11:00–12:45, 12:45–14:30 and 14:30–16:00; on Wednesday 10:00–12:45, 12:45–14:30 and 14:30–16:00. Entry within the slot is first come, first served. Tickets are valid only on the day, and cannot be rescheduled or refunded. The museum caps Peleș at 2,000 visitors a day.
- Where to buy Peleș: online at bilete.peles.ro or at the SelfPay machines near the castles, which take cash or card. Book online for weekends.
- Bran: buy online at bran-castle.com. In summer, book ahead: our Bran guide notes that the castle warns tickets sell out.
- Pelișor is 30 lei. Skip it on a two-castle day.
Organised tours
Day tours that combine both castles exist, but the ones we found start in Bucharest. We saw these on 16 October 2026:
- Gray Line Romania: leaves Bucharest at 07:45, about 14 hours, from €62.10 per person. Castle tickets are extra and the castle visits are self-guided.
- Headout: 12 hours from Bucharest, listed at €35, with a guide and audio guide. Castle tickets are bought on site.
- Unknown Bucharest: a private car and driver-guide for 13 hours, €330 for one or two people and €360 for three. Admission is extra.
So a group tour is about €35–€62 per person plus the 200 lei in tickets, and a private car about €330 for one or two. We did not find a combined Bran-and-Peleș tour that starts in Brașov. Our Bran guide notes that day tours from Brașov usually pair Bran with Râșnov and only sometimes with Peleș.
Before you book any tour, check the day, whether castle tickets are included, and whether the guide comes inside. Peleș is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and one operator says that on those days you only see it from outside.
Starting from Bucharest
One day is a stretch from Bucharest: Sinaia is on the way, but Bran is on the far side of Brașov.
- Tour: the easiest choice. See the Bucharest listings above.
- Car: from Gara de Nord to Peleș is 141 km, about 2 h without traffic (A3 and DN1). Then Peleș to Bran is 48.6 km (63 min), and Bran back to Bucharest is 187 km, about 2 h 52 min: roughly 5 h 55 min of driving without traffic. Bran Castle’s own page quotes 160 km and about 2.5 hours from Bucharest. Leave by 06:00 and avoid Fridays and Sundays, when queues on the DN1 can add hours (see our Bucharest guide).
- Train: InterRegio trains from București Nord stop at Sinaia; InterCity trains skip it, stopping only at Ploiești Vest. The 06:09 InterRegio (IR 1735) reaches Brașov at 08:41, so it passes Sinaia about an hour earlier. On paper you could do Peleș, take a train on to Brașov, ride the bus to Bran and catch the 20:00 InterRegio (IR 1622) back to Bucharest, which arrives at 22:35 on a weekday. That is a day of more than 16 hours with three connections.
Our pick from Bucharest is to split it. Do Peleș on the way: take an InterRegio to Sinaia, visit, and continue to Brașov. The last direct train from Sinaia to Brașov left at 22:53 on 10 October 2026. Then do Bran the next day from Brașov. The train times and fares are in Bucharest to Brașov.
FAQ
Can you visit Bran and Peleș castles in one day?
Yes, by car or with a tour, from Wednesday to Sunday. By car the loop from Brașov is about 125 km and 2 h 35 min of driving without traffic, and you are away for about nine hours. By train and bus it is possible but takes about 11 hours.
How far is Peleș from Bran?
48.6 km, about 63 minutes without traffic. The route runs by the DN73 and DN73A through Râșnov to Predeal, then south on the DN1 to Sinaia, so it does not go through Brașov, according to OpenStreetMap routing on 16 October 2026.
Which castle should I see first, Bran or Peleș?
Peleș. It has a timed ticket, a 16:00 last entry and two closed days a week, while Bran stays open until 19:00 (18:00 from 2 November) and has no closing day.
Which days can I do both?
Wednesday to Sunday. Peleș is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and in 2026 also from 2 November to 1 December.
Is there a bus from Sinaia to Bran?
Autogari.ro lists private minibuses from Sinaia railway station to Bran, taking 1 h 28 min to 1 h 47 min, with 200 lei shown for one operator. They look like long-distance shuttles, so confirm with the operator that they take a passenger for this leg. The reliable route is a train back to Brașov and the Transbus bus from there.
How much do both castles cost?
200 lei (about €40) for an adult: Peleș 100 lei for the ground floor and first floor, Bran 100 lei for the Standard Tour. Pelișor adds 30 lei. Prices checked on 16 October 2026.
Do I need to book Peleș in advance?
Yes. Tickets are timed, sold only online or at the SelfPay machines by the castles, and cannot be rescheduled or refunded. Book online for weekends.
Can I do Bran and Peleș from Bucharest in one day?
By tour or by car, yes, but it is a long day: about 5 h 55 min of driving without traffic, or 12–14 hours on a tour. Splitting it, with Peleș on the way to Brașov and Bran the next day, is easier.
