Before accommodation, a day in Brașov costs about 125 lei (€23) per person on a budget, 320 lei (€60) mid-range and 450 lei (€84) if you eat out twice and take taxis. On top of that come your room, the city’s tourist tax of 12 lei per person per night, and any day trips: Bran Castle with the bus costs about 130 lei, Peleș with the train about 155 lei, and a day’s skiing in Poiana Brașov about 350 lei with rental. The budgets below are our own sums of published 2026 prices, checked on 10 October 2026; euros use the BNR rate of 5.3414 lei on 9 October 2026 (BNR).

Accommodation and the tourist tax

The tourist tax is 12 lei per person per night in Brașov and Poiana Brașov from 2026: 7 lei for tourism promotion and 5 lei for Salvamont, the mountain rescue service. The City Council approved it in December 2025, and the hotel or guesthouse collects it and passes it on to the city (Antena 3, 22 December 2025). For a couple staying three nights that’s 72 lei (€13.50). Ask whether the price you’re quoted already includes it: some booking sites show it, some add it at check-in.

Room prices vary too much by date to give a fair average. As one dated example: for the 30 November–1 December 2026 long weekend, a busy holiday in Romania, Travelminit listed double rooms with breakfast at two three-star hotels in the city at 421 lei and 513 lei a night for two, taxes included (BizBrasov, 7 October 2026). Prices move a lot with the date, so compare a midweek night with a Saturday before you book.

Food and drink

These are crowd-sourced averages for Brașov from Numbeo, last updated on 2 October 2026. They are a guide to the range rather than a menu.

Restaurants on and around Piața Sfatului and Strada Republicii are the most convenient. A weekday lunch menu (meniul zilei), a fixed soup-and-main lunch that many restaurants offer, is the usual way to eat well for less. The usual tip is around 10%.

  • Travel on a Friday for free city and suburban buses.
  • Buy the Brașov Visit Ticket if you’ll see three or more museums.
  • Eat the lunch menu instead of dinner à la carte, and buy water in shops rather than restaurants.
  • Walk up Tâmpa instead of riding: the Serpentine trail takes 1 h 15 to 1 h 30 and saves 45 lei. Or ride up and walk down.
  • Pick the Regio train to Sinaia if you’re not in a hurry: 13 lei less each way than the InterRegio.
  • Skip the taxi to Bran: the hourly bus is 15 lei.
