Getting there from Brașov
- Bus 20 runs from Livada Poștei (in the centre, by the County Library) to Poiana Brașov. A normal 5-lei urban ticket, valid 90 minutes, covers it, and a day pass costs 20 lei (RAT Brașov fares). On the current (summer) timetable, buses leave every 20 minutes from 07:00 to 18:40 and every 30 minutes until 23:30, and the ride takes about 20 minutes to Poiana Mică (line 20 timetable). RAT publishes the winter timetable before the season starts.
- Seasonal buses: in winter, line 100 runs from Brașov railway station to Poiana Brașov, and line 60 shuttles from the Park & Ride in Poiana de Jos to the gondola base (Discover Poiana transport). City Hall recommended lines 20, 60 and 100 in winter 2025/26.
- By car: the road climbs from the city through the forest. In winter there’s a Park & Ride in Poiana de Jos, with the line 60 shuttle up to the gondola base.

Night skiing, school and rentals
- Night skiing: Bradul is the floodlit slope. In 2025/26 it was open in the evenings at weekends (Newsweek România).
- Ski school: Ana Ski & Snowboard School operates out of Ana Hotels Sport on Str. Valea Dragă (tel. 0268 407 330) and has more than 140 instructors. Its last published prices were 200 lei for a one-hour private lesson, valid until April 2024, so expect more now (Discover Poiana ski school).
- Rentals: at Ana Hotels Sport, a full adult ski set (skis, poles, boots) is listed at 100 lei a day, or 80 lei for children, and a helmet at 20 lei (rental prices).
Season dates and snow
Poiana relies on snowmaking. In 2025/26, snowmaking started on 14 December, the beginner slopes Bradul and Stadion opened on 30 December, and the upper slopes and big lifts opened on 2 January 2026 (G4Media). The last day of skiing was 29 March 2026, and more than 90% of that season’s snow was artificial (Newsweek România). Recent seasons have run from around Christmas to late March, with the most reliable conditions in January and February. The 2026/27 opening date depends on the cold and on snowmaking, and City Hall announces it.
Predeal: Clăbucet
Predeal is the closest resort you can reach by train: 26 km from Brașov, 33–43 minutes, with about 20 direct trains a day (CFR Călători). The Clăbucet ski area is run by Teleferic Prahova (Genetrix) and has five slopes: Clăbucet Sosire (easy), Cocoșul (easy), Clăbucet Superior (medium), Clăbucet Variantă (medium) and Subteleferic (difficult). A chairlift and a teleski serve them (slope status). In total that’s about 7.4 km between roughly 1,040 m and 1,450 m (skiresort.com).
Prices on the operator’s “2026 season” list, adult / child 5–12, with under-5s free (teleferic.ro):
- 1 day: 250 / 125 lei
- 4 hours: 200 / 100 lei
- 2 hours: 120 / 60 lei
- Chairlift return for pedestrians: 100 / 50 lei
There is night skiing, but day passes are not valid for it.
A 2nd-class train ticket from Brașov costs roughly 12–20 lei, depending on the train type (our calculation from CFR’s tariff tables). One pair of skis per person travels free as hand luggage (CFR).
Sinaia: Cota 1400 and Cota 2000
Sinaia has the highest skiing near Brașov. Lifts climb from the town, at about 1,000 m, to Cota 1400 and to the Bucegi plateau at Cota 2000, so the upper slopes are the most likely to have snow in a warm spell. The municipal operator lists 25 slopes and 11 lifts, all on one card, the One PASS (Sinaia Go). The lifts include two gondolas (Sinaia, 1000–1400, and Carp, 1400–2000), the two-section cable car, and the Soarelui, Dorului and Expres chairlifts (lift list).
2025/26 prices (2026/27 not yet published), weekday / weekend (Sinaia Go tariffs):
- Adult day pass: 210 / 230 lei
- Seniors 65+: 170 / 190 lei
- Children 5–12: 135 / 150 lei
Weekend prices also apply on public holidays and during school holidays.
The train from Brașov takes 1 h–1 h 12 and covers 45 km. A 2nd-class ticket costs roughly 15–28 lei. Sinaia is also home to Peleș Castle, so you can combine skiing with a visit. See our Peleș Castle guide.
Azuga: Sorica and Cazacu
Azuga has two slopes, Sorica and Cazacu, which together come to about 6.9 km between 978 m and 1,539 m (skiresort.com). A gondola runs up Sorica. Azuga Ski & Bike Resort, the 4-star hotel at the bottom of the Sorica slope, is open and selling Christmas 2026 and New Year 2027 stays (azugaresort.ro). Winter ski-pass prices weren’t published when we checked; outside the ski season a return gondola ticket costs 70 lei (gondola). The train from Brașov takes 45–54 minutes.
Bușteni: Kalinderu
Kalinderu, in Bușteni, is a single slope of about 2.9 km between 1,000 m and 1,295 m, with two lifts (skiresort.com). It’s fine for a few hours if you’re staying in the Prahova Valley, but not worth a special trip from Brașov. The Bușteni–Babele cable car is a separate sightseeing lift into the Bucegi; a one-way ticket up costs 105 lei (teleferic.ro). The train from Brașov takes 51–61 minutes.
