Which one? Olimpia is the one in the Old Town, with the mountain behind it, and it stays open through the winter holidays, apart from 25 and 31 December in 2025/26. The Olympic Ice Rink is indoors, so the weather does not matter, but it is also the home of the CSM Corona Brașov ice hockey team, and its public hours depend on the match calendar. It is the one to pick on a Monday evening, when Olimpia is shut.
Don’t mix up the names. Olimpia, the outdoor rink in the centre, and Olimpic, the indoor arena by the station, sound almost the same, so check which one a listing means before you set off. They also have different operators: the County Council runs Olimpia, and the city’s sports directorate (DSTBV) runs the Olympic Ice Rink.
Olimpia: the outdoor rink at the foot of Tâmpa
Address: Str. George Coșbuc 2 · Phone: 0730 112 040 or 0770 733 499 · Run by: Brașov County Council
Skating at Olimpia goes back to 1895, when the Saxons of Brașov opened the first natural rink there with a costume party on the ice, says Olimpia’s website.
Today the rink is an Olympic-size, 1,800 m² surface on the sports base, in the old town “at the foot of Tâmpa”, as the County Council put it on 28 November 2025. It is a winter-only installation: after the 2025/26 season it was taken down to make room for the tennis courts, according to the County Council on 25 February 2026.
Hours in 2025/26
- Tuesday to Sunday: six sessions of 75 minutes, at 10:00, 12:00, 14:00, 16:00, 18:00 and 20:00, the last one ending at 21:15 (County Council, Monitorul Expres). Sessions start every two hours, leaving a 45-minute gap for ice maintenance (Metropola).
- Monday: closed, for equipment checks and to rebuild the ice.
- Opening night: entry was free on the first evening, Friday 5 December 2025, with the inauguration at 18:00.
- 24 December: sessions at 10:00, 12:00 and 14:00.
- 25 and 31 December: closed.
- 1 January: sessions at 14:00, 16:00, 18:00 and 20:00.
- From 2 January: the normal six sessions a day (Reporter BV, 24 December 2025).
The 2026/27 hours and holiday schedule have not been published.
Prices
Everything is charged per session. The adult ticket and skate hire went up on 1 January 2026, mid-season, by decision of the County Council, as its 25 February 2026 report says. The current list is on Olimpia’s website.
| Item | Until 31 Dec 2025 | Since 1 Jan 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Adult ticket | 20 lei | 25 lei |
| Child ticket (up to 14 years) | 15 lei | 15 lei |
| Skate hire, per pair | 20 lei | 25 lei |
| Skating aid (“mașinuță”), per piece | 15 lei | 15 lei |
| Blade sharpening | 20 lei | 30 lei |
| Organised group, per person | 7 lei | 7 lei |
| Skate hire for a group, per pair | 10 lei | 13 lei |
An adult with hired skates therefore pays 50 lei (about €10) a session, and a child 40 lei. The group rate applies to a group of at least 10 preschoolers, pupils or children in care with at least one adult. The rink has more than 400 pairs of skates in sizes 26 to 50 and 15 skating aids for beginners, the County Council says.
Getting to Olimpia
- On foot from Piața Sfatului: about 670 m, 9 minutes. The rink is on the edge of the Old Town, so most visitors walk.
- By bus: from Livada Poștei take bus 4 (towards Tocile) one stop to Biserica Neagră, then walk about 540 m, 7 minutes. The same bus 4 starts at Terminal Gară, by the train station (RATBV line 4). A ticket costs 5 lei and RATBV buses are free on Fridays (fares, Vinerea Verde). See getting around Brașov for tickets and apps.
- By car: parking in the centre is paid and fills up in December; see our Brașov parking guide.
Walking distances are measured on OpenStreetMap. Between two sessions you can visit Olimpia – Muzeul Sportului și Turismului Montan, the Sport and Mountain Tourism Museum, a branch of the Brașov County History Museum in the same complex, according to the County Council on 17 February 2026.
Olympic Ice Rink: the indoor rink by the station
Address: Parcul Tractorul, behind the Central Station, Str. Turnului 5, according to Wikipedia · Ticket office: +40 368 442 241 or +40 368 442 242 · Run by: the city’s sports directorate
The Olympic Ice Rink opened in January 2010 and is the home arena of the CSM Corona Brașov ice hockey team, according to the rink’s website and Wikipedia. The ice is 60 × 30 m and the stands are kept at about 16 °C, or 11 °C one to two metres from the ice. Because matches and events come first, the rink’s website warns that it is not always open to the public and that the programme is updated weekly.
Public skating
The rink’s website gives this as its indicative weekly pattern; the sports directorate posts each week’s programme as an image on its Program Baze Sportive page. The latest was posted on 2 October 2026.
| Day | Public sessions |
|---|---|
| Monday | 19:00–21:00 |
| Tuesday | 16:00–18:00 |
| Wednesday | 19:00–21:00 |
| Thursday | 16:00–18:00 |
| Friday | 16:00–18:00 and 19:00–22:00 |

| Sunday | 10:00–13:00, 14:00–18:00 and 19:00–21:00 |
Its events page currently lists CSM Corona home games on 11 December and 28 January, a skating evening with music and a DJ on the ice on 20 December at 19:00, with public access, and a figure-skating gala on 15 January, without naming the year. See its events calendar.

- Skate hire: available at the rink, but no price is published online; ask at the ticket office.
- Final prices: the website’s prices are indicative and the prices shown at the ticket office are the valid ones. Tickets are not refunded unless the session is cancelled for a reason beyond the visitor, such as a technical fault.
- Rules: skates are compulsory on the ice, children under 14 may skate only with an adult, hockey sticks and pucks are banned in public sessions, and nobody under the influence of alcohol is admitted (terms and conditions). There is a first-aid room.
Getting to the Olympic Ice Rink
- From the Old Town by bus: bus 4 from Livada Poștei towards Terminal Gară takes about 12 minutes (six stops). Until about 18:00 it runs every 9–14 minutes on weekdays and every 13–14 minutes at weekends; later in the evening it comes every 18 minutes on weekdays and every 27 minutes at weekends. The last bus back from Terminal Gară towards Livada Poștei leaves at 23:24 on weekdays and 22:15 at weekends, so after a Saturday session that ends at 22:00 you have one bus to catch. - On foot from Piața Sfatului: 3.5 km, about 47 minutes, so take the bus.

Other places
- Piața Sfatului. City Hall set up no rink at the 2025 Christmas market, and none is announced for 2026. The market opens on 27 November; see our Brașov Christmas market guide. In December 2023 a free rink stood in Piața Sfântul Ioan (Zile și Nopți).
- Poiana Brașov. A resort tourism site lists a skating rink open “every day” but gives no hours, price or season, and names the Olympic Ice Rink’s phone number as the contact (Discover Poiana). Phone +40 368 442 241 before you go up the mountain.
Tips
- Busiest weeks: the school holidays. The County Council expected the last week of the 2025/26 season, a pupils’ holiday week, to be among the busiest (County Council, 17 February 2026). In 2026/27 schools are on holiday from 23 December 2026 to 10 January 2027, and each county picks one week for the school ski holiday between 15 February and 7 March 2027 (Edupedu).
- Dress for the cold, even indoors. The Olympic Ice Rink’s stands are at 16 °C and the air by the ice at about 11 °C. Bring gloves and warm socks.
- Skate sizes: Olimpia’s hire skates start at size 26. There are only 15 skating aids for beginners, so ask for one as soon as you arrive.
- Monday: Olimpia is closed, but the Olympic Ice Rink lists a public session from 19:00 to 21:00.
- Groups: a group of at least 10 pupils, preschoolers or children in care pays 7 lei a person at Olimpia.
For a wet or very cold day, our guides to Brașov on a rainy day and Brașov in winter list other indoor options. With children, see things to do in Brașov with kids, and for the rest of the festive season, Brașov in December.
