City Hall has proposed new parking rules: 5 lei/hour in Zona 0 on weekdays and 10 lei at weekends, payable every day 08:00–22:00, Sundays included. The consultation closed on 9 October 2026; the council has not voted yet, so the current rules below still apply.
Parking around Brașov’s Old Town costs 3 lei an hour (about €0.56). That is the Zona 0 rate, which covers the historic centre and Poiana Brașov; the rest of the city is 2 lei (Zona I) or 1.50 lei (Zona II). Under the current rules you pay Monday to Saturday from 08:00 to 20:00, so evenings and Sundays are free. Pay with coins or notes at the machine, in the TPark app, or by SMS to 7420 from a Romanian number. City Hall wants to raise Zona 0 to 5 lei on weekdays and 10 lei at weekends, payable every day until 22:00; the plan went out to consultation in September 2026 and had not been voted when we checked on 10 October 2026.
| Where | Zone | Price now | When you pay now |
|---|---|---|---|
| Car parks around the Old Town (Bd. Eroilor, Livada Poștei, Str. Castelului, Aleea Tiberiu Brediceanu) | Zona 0 | 3 lei/hour | Mon–Sat 08:00–20:00 |
| Poiana Brașov | Zona 0 | 3 lei/hour | Mon–Sat 08:00–20:00 |
| Most other city streets, including around the train station | Zona I | 2 lei/hour | Mon–Sat 08:00–20:00 |
| A few outlying streets | Zona II | 1.50 lei/hour | Mon–Sat 08:00–20:00 |
| Regina Maria multi-storey, Strada Pieții | Barrier car park | Not published online | Pay at the machine before you leave |
| Brașov-Ghimbav airport | Airport car park | 5 lei/hour, 120 lei for 24 h | 24 hours |
Current tariffs and paid hours are as reported when City Hall published its draft regulation (BizBrasov, 18 September 2026; Monitorul Expres, 23 September 2026). Euro figures use the BNR rate of 5.3414 lei on 9 October 2026.
This guide is part of Plan your trip to Brașov. If you are still deciding whether to bring a car at all, our guide to getting around Brașov shows how far you can get on 5-lei bus tickets.
How paid parking works
Brașov’s public car parks and kerbside bays are divided into three tariff zones. Zona 0 is the historic centre and Poiana Brașov. Zona I covers most paid parking elsewhere in the city. Zona II is a handful of outlying streets. The zone is printed on the sign at each car park, together with the payment options.
| Zone | 1 hour | 24 hours |
|---|---|---|
| Zona 0 | 3 lei | 24 lei |
| Zona I | 2 lei | 16 lei |
| Zona II | 1.50 lei | 12 lei |
The hourly rates have been the same since 13 November 2020, when the 24-hour tariffs above were introduced as well (Bună Ziua Brașov, 13 November 2020). Not every payment channel sells the 24-hour ticket, so check the machine or the app before you rely on it.
- When you pay: Monday to Saturday, 08:00–20:00. Outside those hours, and all day on Sunday, parking in the public bays is free.
- When to pay: straight after you park. If you pay at the machine, leave the ticket on the dashboard where it can be read from outside.
- What isn’t a public bay: spaces marked as residential parking (parcare de reședință, usually numbered or with a plate sign) are rented to residents by the year, and spaces signed rezervat belong to whoever rents them. Don’t use either.
How to pay
- At the machine (parcometru): cash, coins or notes. The ticket is printed for the time you have paid for.
- TPark app or website: TPark is the payment platform used for Brașov’s public parking. The free app (Android and iOS) or the website tpark.io takes a bank card, so it works with a foreign phone. You can extend your time in the app, even if you first paid at the machine; two payments in a row for the same zone add up.
- SMS to 7420: send the zone code followed by your number plate, with no space. The codes listed for Brașov are 340 for Zona 0, 343 for Zona I and 344 for Zona II, so an hour in the centre for BV12ABC is
340BV12ABC. Check the code on the sign before you send it. The order SMS is free on Digi and Vodafone and costs €0.05 + VAT on Orange, plus the parking fee. If no confirmation SMS comes back, you haven’t paid (TPark). Short numbers like 7420 are set up for Romanian mobile networks, so with a foreign SIM use the app or the machine.
Watch out for fake messages. In October 2026 Romania’s cyber-security agency (DNSC) warned about SMS messages sent in TPark’s name, asking for an “unpaid” parking fee and linking to a copy of its site. Don’t tap the link: check your parking sessions in the official app or by typing the address yourself (BizBrasov, 4 October 2026).
The proposed new rules
On 18 September 2026 City Hall put a new parking regulation out to public consultation, with the stated aim of cutting traffic in the historic centre. Comments closed on 9 October 2026. It still has to be voted by the City Council, and no start date has been announced. If it passes as drafted (draft regulation):
| Now | Proposed | |
|---|---|---|
| Zona 0, weekdays | 3 lei/hour | 5 lei/hour |
| Zona 0, Saturday and Sunday | 3 lei/hour on Saturday, free on Sunday | 10 lei/hour |
| Zona I | 2 lei/hour | 3 lei/hour |
| Zona II | 1.50 lei/hour | 2 lei/hour |
| Paid hours | Mon–Sat 08:00–20:00 | Every day 08:00–22:00 |
| Zona 0 area | Historic centre, Poiana Brașov | Also the train station, Lacul Noua and the Zoo |
The draft also sets a surcharge for unpaid parking, payable until 08:00 the next morning: 100 lei a day (200 lei in Zona 0 at weekends). Otherwise the fine in Zona 0 would be 500–1,000 lei on weekdays and 1,000–1,500 lei at weekends, and enforcement staff could clamp the car, with another 100 lei to release it. The penalty for not paying under the current rules isn’t published.
For a weekend visitor, the difference is large. Parking a whole day in Poiana (09:00–17:00) costs 24 lei on a Saturday and nothing on a Sunday now; under the draft it would be 80 lei on either day.
Where to park near the Old Town
The centre itself is mostly pedestrianised, and the streets inside the walls are narrow, so drivers use the car parks around its edge. Space counts are from the list of Brașov’s public car parks in the Am Parcat app (amparcat.ro); walking times to Piața Sfatului are from OpenStreetMap routing.
| Car park | Zone | Spaces (about) | Walk to Piața Sfatului |
|---|---|---|---|
| Livada Poștei, by the County Library | Zona 0 | 95 | 5 minutes |
| Bd. Eroilor, between the roundabout and Str. Vlad Țepeș | Zona 0 | 220 | 8–10 minutes |
| Bd. Eroilor by the Town Hall, the Post Office and Parcul Eroilor | Zona 0 | 90 | 8–10 minutes |
| Str. Castelului | Zona 0 | 210 | 5–10 minutes |
| Aleea Tiberiu Brediceanu, by the Tâmpa cable car | Zona 0 | 75 | about 12 minutes |
| Poarta Șchei | Zona 0 | 33 | 5 minutes |
| Regina Maria multi-storey, Strada Pieții | Barrier car park | 306 | about 15 minutes |
- Livada Poștei and Bd. Eroilor are the closest to the airport bus and bus 20 to Poiana, and the first to fill. They are also the ones City Hall plans to remove: on 28 August 2026 the council approved the study for an underground car park of about 440 spaces in the centre, and once it is built the surface car parks at the County Library, Modarom, the Prefecture and Casa Armatei are to be turned over to pedestrians (BizBrasov, 31 August 2026). Design and construction are expected to take more than two years from the building permit, so nothing changes for now.
- Regina Maria is a seven-level public car park next to the Military Hospital on Strada Pieții, at the northern end of Tâmpa, with 306 spaces (City Hall study). It works with a barrier and an automatic pay station; when it opened, the machine took notes, coins and cards. Its tariff isn’t published online.
- Staying in the Old Town? Ask your hotel or host before you book whether they have parking, or which public car park they use. Many places inside the walls have none.
Parking for the Tâmpa cable car
The car park on Aleea Tiberiu Brediceanu, the promenade under the walls, is the closest to the cable car’s lower station; Str. Castelului is the overflow. Both are Zona 0. The cable car runs until 22:00 (22:30 on Fridays and Saturdays), so if you go up for the sunset, the end of your visit usually falls after 20:00, when parking is free under the current rules.
Poiana Brașov
The city’s car parks in Poiana Brașov are in Zona 0, so they cost the same as the Old Town: 3 lei an hour, Monday to Saturday 08:00–20:00. Hotels in the resort have their own parking for guests.
In the ski season there is also a Park & Ride in Poiana de Jos, at the entrance to the resort, with seasonal bus line 60 shuttling up to the gondola base. If you don’t need the car up there, bus 20 runs from Livada Poștei to Poiana for the normal 5-lei ticket. Our guide to skiing near Brașov has the lifts, passes and winter bus lines.
The road up climbs about 13 km through the forest. In winter, Romanian law requires winter tyres whenever the road is covered with snow, ice or slush, and the road to Poiana can be hard going after heavy snow; our weather and seasons guide has the monthly snow figures.
Train station
The car parks on Bd. Gării and around Brașov station are Zona I, 2 lei an hour; the largest, by the Sala Sporturilor on Bd. Gării, has about 525 spaces (amparcat.ro). Under the draft regulation the station area would move into Zona 0. For a day trip by train, the Sunday rule (free) and the 24-hour ticket (16 lei in Zona I) are worth knowing.
Brașov airport
The car park is right in front of the terminal and open around the clock (Brașov airport):
| Stay | Price |
|---|---|
| Up to 24 hours | 5 lei per hour (120 lei for a full day) |
| Each extra 24 hours | 60 lei |
| 1-week pass | 200 lei |
| 2-week pass | 350 lei |
| Monthly pass | 600 lei |
Passes must be requested at least three working days before you park. Pay just before you leave; after paying you have 10 minutes to exit, and a lost ticket costs 300 lei. More on the airport, including the A1 bus into town, is in our Brașov airport guide.
Park and ride
- RATBV terminals: the car parks at the Poienelor, Saturn, Triaj and Rulmentul bus terminals work as park and ride for anyone with a valid RATBV travel pass (abonament). Leave proof of the pass on the dashboard; vehicles over 5 m aren’t allowed (RATBV). RATBV doesn’t say whether the 1-, 3- and 7-day visitor passes count.
- Bartolomeu: a 697-space multi-storey park and ride was built next to the new Sala Polivalentă in Bartolomeu and was due to open in autumn 2025 (Forbes România, September 2025). Check whether it’s open to the public, and what it charges, before you plan around it.
- Free buses on Fridays: under RATBV’s Vinerea Verde scheme, all RATBV lines in Brașov are free every Friday, with no ticket needed (RATBV). On a Friday, leaving the car outside the centre costs you nothing extra.
Tips
- Sundays and evenings are free for now. If the new regulation passes, they won’t be, so check the sign rather than relying on this.
- Install TPark before you arrive if you don’t have coins or a Romanian SIM.
- Busy dates: in December the Christmas market fills the central car parks, and some streets around Piața Sfatului close for the opening night. Our Christmas market guide has the dates.
- Leave the car at your accommodation for the Old Town. It’s compact, and the walk from the edge car parks is short.
