Understanding Brașov's transport infrastructure empowers visitors to move efficiently between attractions, neighborhoods, and surrounding destinations. From the historic cable car climbing Tâmpa to the modern airport connecting European cities, transport options continue to expand and improve.

Public transportation in Brașov centers on an extensive bus network operated by RATBV. Routes cover the city comprehensively, connecting the main train station, old town, residential neighborhoods, and popular destinations like Poiana Brașov. Tickets can be purchased at kiosks, from bus drivers, or via smartphone app. The system runs efficiently, though service reduces on weekends and evenings.

The Tâmpa cable car (telecabina) deserves special mention as both transport and attraction. This gondola system carries visitors from the base station near the old town to Tâmpa's summit in just minutes, providing an effortless alternative to hiking the mountain trails. Operating hours vary seasonally, and closures occur during high winds or maintenance periods.

Brașov's railway station (Gara Brașov) serves as a hub for regional and national rail services. CFR Călători operates trains to Bucharest, Sibiu, Sighișoara, and other destinations throughout Romania. The station sits northwest of the old town, easily reached by bus or taxi. Train travel offers a comfortable, scenic alternative to driving, particularly through the Prahova Valley.

Road infrastructure includes well-maintained highways and mountain roads. The E60 connects Brașov to Bucharest and westward toward Cluj-Napoca. Local roads access mountain resorts, Saxon villages, and hiking trailheads. Winter driving requires preparation—mountain passes may require chains, and weather can change rapidly at higher elevations.

Brașov-Ghimbav International Airport, operational since 2023, represents the most significant recent transport development. Located 10 kilometers from the city center, the airport dramatically improves accessibility from European cities. Wizz Air operates most routes, with the network continuing to expand. Ground transport from the airport includes taxis and eventual bus service.

Our transport coverage provides practical guidance for navigating all these options, including schedules, ticket purchasing, and tips for efficient travel during your Brașov visit.
