For the first time in history, Romania enters the prestigious Bocuse d'Or circuit, the world's most prestigious gastronomic competition. Business Review reports that on November 27, 2025, five professional chef teams will compete in Brașov for the national selection that will determine who represents Romania at Bocuse d'Or Europe 2026 in Marseille.

What is Bocuse d'Or?

Founded in 1987 by legendary Chef Paul Bocuse, Bocuse d'Or is considered the most prestigious gastronomic competition in the world. Every two years, the final brings together the most talented chefs on the planet in a spectacular showcase of culinary excellence. Over nearly four decades, more than 70 countries have participated, with only 52 chefs achieving the supreme title, making it a benchmark for gastronomic perfection worldwide.

Romania's entry into this exclusive circuit marks a significant milestone for the country's culinary scene, bringing international recognition to Romanian gastronomy and providing a platform for local talent to compete on the world stage. According to Romania Insider, the National Association of Chefs and Pastry Chefs (ANBCT) secured the country's participation by meeting Bocuse d'Or's rigorous standards and opening registrations for the Brașov selection.

The Perfect Team Structure

Each Bocuse d'Or team consists of three mandatory roles that remain unchanged throughout the competition, from national to European and world stages:

  • Chef: A professional Romanian chef with proven competition experience, responsible for concept and execution
  • Commis: A young chef born after January 24, 2004, representing the new generation
  • Coach: A professional with strategic coordination and jury communication role, without direct cooking involvement

How the National Selection Works

Business Review describes the Brașov event as a six-hour marathon where each team must deliver an intricate platter and plated dish that elevate Romanian ingredients through Bocuse d'Or technique. Judges assess precision, taste, creativity, and teamwork, mirroring the scorecards that will be used again in Marseille.

Romania Insider adds that ANBCT—the only Romanian organization recognized by SIRHA/Bocuse d'Or—opened online registrations this autumn and will formally announce finalists on October 27. The winning trio earns Romania's first berth at Bocuse d'Or Europe 2026, where an international jury will evaluate their menus under the "Tradition Reinterpreted" brief.

"This first Bocuse edition represents a generation that has grown through competitions, hard work, and pride in taking Romanian gastronomy where it truly belongs," said Chef Cezar Munteanu, ANBCT president and official organizer, in his interview with Business Review.
