April is when spring arrives in Brașov: afternoons average 16°C, nights about 3°C, frosts become rare by the end of the month and the hills turn green in late April. On 1 April Bran Castle and the Black Church switch to their longer summer hours, and Seven Ladders Canyon’s season begins. Because Orthodox Easter is late in 2027 (2 May), most of April is quiet; the crowds arrive with the spring school holiday on 24 April and the Easter long weekend, which starts on Good Friday, 30 April. If you’re coming for the Junii parade, note that it moves with Easter: it was in April in 2026, but in 2027 it is expected on 9 May.
Weather in April
These are the averages for the Brașov-Ghimbav weather station, 2015–2025, from the table in our Brașov weather and seasons guide:
| April | |
|---|---|
| Average high | 16°C (61°F) |
| Average low | 3°C (37°F) |
| Rain | about 44 mm on 8 days |
| Days with snowfall | about 2 |
| Nights below 0°C | about 7 |
| Daylight | 12 h 50 min on 1 April, 14 h 19 min on 30 April |
| Sunrise / sunset | 06:57 / 19:47 on 1 April; 06:06 / 20:24 on 30 April |
Sunrise and sunset times are from sunrise-sunset.org.
What that means on the ground: changeable spring weather, with warm, sunny afternoons between cool, showery days, and the occasional late snowfall. The afternoon is usually 11–15°C warmer than the night, so mornings need a jacket. The forest paths are still muddy after the snowmelt, and snow can linger on the higher ridges well into spring. In the mountains it is roughly 6°C colder for every 1,000 m you climb.

Events in April
- Easter moves, and in 2027 it’s late. Orthodox Easter is on 2 May 2027 (Digi24), which matches our own calculation with the Orthodox (Julian) Easter formula. Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday (Florii) on 25 April, and Good Friday, 30 April, is a public holiday. Easter Sunday and Easter Monday fall in May (2 and 3 May). In 2028 Orthodox Easter is on 16 April.
- Brașov Days and the Junii parade: May this year. Both take place on the weekend after Orthodox Easter. In 2026 that was 17–19 April, with the parade on 19 April; in 2027 the parade is expected on Sunday 9 May. Details are in our Junii parade guide.
- Public holidays: Good Friday, 30 April 2027. The Labour Code gives Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday as days off, following the Orthodox date (legislatie.just.ro).
Our What’s on in Brașov page lists one-off concerts, opera and theatre for the current month.
What’s open and what’s closed
- Summer hours from 1 April: Bran Castle opens Tuesday to Sunday 09:00–19:00 and Monday 12:00–19:00 (last entry) until 1 November. The Art Museum moves to 10:00–18:00; the Museum of Urban Civilization and the Ethnography Museum keep their winter hours (09:00–17:00) until the end of April.
- Seven Ladders Canyon: the site’s FAQ gives April to October as the season. It opens daily 10:00–16:00 (last entry), costs 25 lei for adults, and can close at short notice for storms or heavy rain. See our Seven Ladders Canyon guide.

Best things to do in April
- Seven Ladders Canyon in its first weeks. Bus 17B from the railway station to Dâmbul Morii, then about an hour’s walk through the forest to the ladders. Go on a weekday: at weekends queues can form at the ladders, where only one person climbs at a time.
- Walk up Tâmpa. The Serpentine path (red triangle) takes 1 h 15 – 1 h 30 from the Drapers’ Bastion; take the cable car down for 30 lei. Boots help after rain. Routes are in our walks guide.
- Bran Castle before the holiday crowds, with the new summer hours. Our guide to getting to Bran Castle from Brașov has the bus timetable and the stop at Râșnov.
- The bears at Libearty, on a morning tour from Tuesday to Sunday. See our Libearty Bear Sanctuary guide.
- A day in Sibiu by train or car; see how to travel from Brașov to Sibiu.
- Spring food at the markets: wild garlic, nettles, sorrel, radishes and fresh sheep’s cheese (caș). Our farmers’ markets guide covers the five city markets.
On a showery day, our rainy day guide lists indoor options with prices and hours.
Crowds and prices
Most of April is quiet. Schools are in class until Friday 23 April, and the spring school holiday runs from Saturday 24 April to Tuesday 4 May 2027 (Order 3194/2026, Ministry of Education). It overlaps the Easter long weekend, Friday 30 April to Monday 3 May: Good Friday, 1 May (a Saturday), Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. Expect the last week of April to be busy at Bran and Peleș and on the roads from Bucharest.
What we can say about prices and booking:
- Peleș admits at most 2,000 visitors a day, so buy timed tickets online for the holiday weekend. Under-18s go free during school holidays, but the free tickets have to be booked. See our Peleș guide.
- Trains fill up before public holidays. Book the Bucharest–Brașov IR and IC trains early for Thursday 29 and Friday 30 April; see our Bucharest–Brașov guide.
- Brașov Zoo opens on Mondays during school holidays and on public holidays; otherwise it closes on Mondays.
Room rates vary with the date, so compare the Easter weekend with mid-April before you book.
What to pack
- Layers: a T-shirt can be enough at 16°C in the sun, but evenings drop towards 3°C.
- A waterproof jacket or a small umbrella for showers.
- Walking shoes or boots that can cope with mud, for Tâmpa and the forest paths.
- A warm hat and gloves if you’re going up to Poiana or the ridges, where snow can linger.
- Shoes with grip for the cobbles, which are slippery when wet.
