August is Brașov’s warmest month, with afternoons around 28°C, and it is drier than June and July, with rain on about 6 days. It’s a good month for festivals and mountain days: the Brașov Jazz & Blues Festival fills Piața Sfântul Ioan in mid-August (13–15 August in 2027), Oktoberfest usually opens at the end of the month, and the Transfăgărășan and Seven Ladders Canyon are open. Expect summer crowds until early September, and the odd heatwave.

Events in August

  • Brașov Jazz & Blues Festival. Three evenings of concerts in mid-August, with the main stage in Piața Sfântul Ioan. The 14th edition ran from 14 to 16 August 2026, with smaller stages at Juno Wine Garden, Coresi, WaldKafe, O’Peter’s Irish Pub and the fortified church in Bod. The 15th edition is set for 13–15 August 2027, and early-bird passes are on sale through biletebrasov.ro (Zile și Nopți, 18 August 2026).
  • Oktoberfest Brașov. A free-entry beer tent and funfair on Strada Turnului, next to Parcul Tractorul. The 2026 edition ran from 27 August to 6 September (oktoberfestromania.ro); in 2025 it started later, on 18 September. The 2027 dates are not out yet. Prices, the table booking and the venue are in our Oktoberfest Brașov guide.
  • Organ Nights at the Black Church. Saturdays at 18:00 through the summer, 35 lei, under-18s free (parish events page).
  • 15 August, the Assumption (Adormirea Maicii Domnului, or Sfânta Maria). A public holiday and one of the big Orthodox feasts. In 2026 it fell on a Saturday and in 2027 it falls on a Sunday, so there is no extra day off in either year (Digi24). The Black Church and Libearty publish their holiday closures, and 15 August isn’t among them; check smaller places before you go.

Line-up, passes and venues are in our Brașov Jazz & Blues Festival guide.

Best things to do in August

  1. An evening at the Jazz & Blues Festival in Piața Sfântul Ioan, a short walk from Piața Sfatului.
  2. Oktoberfest at the end of the month, if the dates fall that way. Entry is free, so you can drop in for an hour; take a taxi or a bus towards Tractorul, since the tent is outside the Old Town.
  3. Seven Ladders Canyon early in the day, before the heat and the storms. Our canyon guide has the 17B bus times.
  4. Peleș Castle in Sinaia, about an hour by train, on a Wednesday to Friday. It’s indoors, which helps on a hot day. See our Peleș Castle guide.
  5. The Transfăgărășan, as a long day by car, or Sibiu by train. Our Brașov to Sibiu guide covers both.
  6. Sunset from Tâmpa. The cable car runs until 22:00 (22:30 on Friday and Saturday), so you can go up for the evening light and ride down after dark.

For hot or stormy afternoons, our rainy day guide lists the museums and indoor options.

Crowds and prices

August is peak season. Romanian schools are on holiday until 5 September 2027 (Order 3194/2026, via Edupedu), and our weather guide counts the 15 August weekend among the busiest of the summer.

  • Book Bran Castle tickets online; they often sell out in summer.
  • Plan popular day trips for weekdays, and check the festival dates above if you want a quiet weekend in the Old Town.
  • Expect a wait at the Tâmpa cable car: about 30 minutes at busy times, the operator says (panoramicbrasov.ro).

Room rates vary with the date, so compare festival weekends with other August dates before you book. Oktoberfest entry is free; the Jazz & Blues Festival sells passes.

What to pack

  • Light, breathable clothes, a sun hat and sun cream: the August sun is strong in the middle of the day.
  • A warm layer for the evenings and for Tâmpa or the mountains.
  • A light rain jacket for the occasional storm.
  • Walking shoes with grip, and water for any hike.
