July is high summer in Brașov and a good month to visit if you want long days outdoors: afternoons average 27°C, nights cool to about 13°C, and until about 21 July the sun sets after 21:00. Every mountain trail, the Seven Ladders Canyon and the Transfăgărășan road are open. The catch is that July is peak season, with Romanian school holidays and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, so book early and plan hikes and day trips for the morning.
Weather in July
These are the averages for the Brașov-Ghimbav weather station, 2015–2025, from the table in our Brașov weather and seasons guide:
| July | |
|---|---|
| Average high | 27°C (81°F) |
| Average low | 13°C (56°F) |
| Rain | about 82 mm on 9 days |
| Days with thunderstorms | about 7 |
| Daylight | 15 h 42 min on 1 July, 14 h 51 min on 31 July |
| Sunrise / sunset | 05:30 / 21:12 on 1 July; 05:58 / 20:49 on 31 July |
Sunrise and sunset times are from sunrise-sunset.org.
What that means on the ground: warm, often sunny mornings, and short, heavy storms in the afternoon, frequently with thunder. Brașov sits in a basin ringed by the Carpathians, so evenings are much cooler than in Bucharest, and you will want a layer after dark. Heatwaves happen: six of the eleven summers from 2015 to 2025 reached 34°C or more at the station. In the mountains it is roughly 6°C colder for every 1,000 m you climb.

Events in July
- Rockstadt Extreme Fest. The big metal festival of the summer. In 2026 it ran from Monday 27 to Friday 31 July, its first year in Ghimbav, about 5 km from Brașov, on a site twice the size of its old home in Râșnov and across the road from Ghimbav railway station (Rockstadt). In 2027 it runs from Monday 26 to Friday 30 July, again in Ghimbav, under its new name, Rockstadt Festival (official ticket shop).
- Organ Nights at the Black Church. Every Saturday at 18:00 through the summer (6 June to 17 October in 2026). Tickets cost 35 lei and under-18s go free (parish events page). Details are in our Black Church guide.
- Open-air concerts. Summer weekends bring one-off concerts to Piața Sfântul Ioan and the Coresi district: in 2026, for example, an Argentine evening in Piața Sfântul Ioan on 19 July and the Coresi Summer Party on 25–26 July (Zile și Nopți). Check What’s on in Brașov for the current month.
- Public holidays: none in July, so shops, museums and offices keep their normal hours all month.
Dates, tickets, buses and camping for the metal festival are in our Rockstadt guide.
What’s open and what’s closed
July is the one month when everything seasonal is running at once:
- Seven Ladders Canyon: open daily, last entry 16:00, 25 lei for adults. The administrator closes it at short notice for storms. See our Seven Ladders Canyon guide.
- Transfăgărășan (DN7C): the high road over the Făgăraș mountains opened for 2026 on 12 June and runs daily 07:00–21:00; it is closed to traffic overnight (Economica.net). It can close for a few hours for races and events, as it did on 20 July 2026 for a motorsport event (Capital).
- Bran Castle: summer hours, Tuesday to Sunday 09:00–19:00 and Monday 12:00–19:00 (last entry). A Standard Tour costs 100 lei.
- Black Church: summer hours until 15 October, closing at 19:00.
- Peleș Castle: open Wednesday to Sunday only; closed on Monday and Tuesday.
- Libearty Bear Sanctuary: guided tours Tuesday to Sunday at 09:45 and 11:00; closed on Monday.
Best things to do in July
- Climb Tâmpa before the heat. The Serpentine path from the Drapers’ Bastion takes 1 h 15 – 1 h 30 to the top; set off early and take the cable car down (30 lei one way). Routes are in our walking guide.
- Seven Ladders Canyon in the morning. Bus 17B to Dâmbul Morii, an hour’s forest walk and the ladders, finished before the afternoon storms.
- Bran Castle on a weekday. Book a timed ticket online and take the hourly bus from Autogara 2. Our guide to getting to Bran Castle from Brașov has the timetable and the last bus back.
- The bears at Libearty. Only morning tours, so it fits a hot day well: you’re back in Brașov by early afternoon. See our Libearty Bear Sanctuary guide.
- Drive the Transfăgărășan. It’s a long day by car. The road leaves the DN1 between Brașov and Sibiu near Cârțișoara; our Brașov to Sibiu guide covers that route.
- A Saturday organ concert at the Black Church at 18:00, which is also a good way to sit out a storm.
When a storm does set in, our rainy day guide lists indoor options with prices and hours.
Crowds and prices
July and August are Brașov’s busiest months. Romanian schools are on holiday from 19 June to 5 September 2027 (Order 3194/2026, via Edupedu), so families travel all month. With no public holiday in July, there are no long weekends; Saturdays and Sundays are the busy days, at Bran and on the Transfăgărășan especially.
- Book Bran Castle tickets online. They often sell out in summer.
- Expect queues at the Tâmpa cable car. The operator warns that the average wait at busy times is about 30 minutes (operator’s page).
- Book your room early if your dates overlap Rockstadt week.
Room rates vary with the date, so compare a few dates before you book. The attraction prices on this page were checked in October 2026.
What to pack
- Light summer clothes and a warm top or fleece for the evenings, when it drops towards 13°C.
- A light rain jacket or small umbrella for the afternoon storms.
- Sun cream, a hat and a refillable water bottle, especially for Seven Ladders and Tâmpa.
- Shoes with grip: the cobbles are slippery when wet, and the forest paths turn muddy after a storm.
- For the Transfăgărășan or the high ridges, a proper jacket: it is far colder and windier up there than in town.
