June has the longest days of the year in Brașov, with the sun setting after 21:00 all month, and warm afternoons of about 25°C with nights around 12°C. It’s also the wettest month, about 99 mm on 11 days, but most of that falls in short afternoon thunderstorms, so mornings are usually clear. It’s a good month for walking and hiking: the mountain season starts in mid-June, the Transfăgărășan road usually reopens (on 12 June in 2026) and the Black Church’s Saturday organ concerts begin. There are two holiday weekends, 1 June (a Tuesday) and Rusalii, 19–21 June, and the school summer holiday starts on 19 June 2027, so the first half of the month is the quieter one.

Weather in June

These are the averages for the Brașov-Ghimbav weather station, 2015–2025, from the table in our Brașov weather and seasons guide:

June

Average low12°C (54°F)
Rainabout 99 mm on 11 days
Days with thunderstormsabout 7

Sunrise and sunset times are from sunrise-sunset.org.

What that means on the ground: warm, often sunny mornings and short, heavy storms in the afternoon, frequently with thunder. Brașov sits in a basin ringed by the Carpathians, so it is cooler than Bucharest and the evenings call for a layer. Heatwaves are possible: six of the eleven summers from 2015 to 2025 reached 34°C or more at the station. Our weather guide puts the hiking season on the higher ridges from mid-June to late September. In the mountains it is roughly 6°C colder for every 1,000 m you climb.

Events in June

  • Children’s Day, 1 June. A public holiday, on a Tuesday in 2027.
  • Rusalii (Orthodox Pentecost), 20–21 June 2027. Rusalii is seven weeks after Orthodox Easter, so with Easter on 2 May it falls on Sunday 20 June, and both the Sunday and the Monday are public holidays (Labour Code, article 139).
  • Organ Nights at the Black Church. The parish’s summer series of Saturday concerts at 18:00 ran from 6 June to 17 October in 2026; tickets cost 35 lei and under-18s went free (parish events page). The 2027 dates haven’t been published. Details are in our Black Church guide.
  • Crafts and children’s workshops in Piața Sfântul Ioan: the county’s fair calendar listed them for 26–28 June in 2026 (Brașov County Council, PDF).
  • Public holidays: 1 June, 20 June and 21 June.

Our What’s on in Brașov page lists one-off concerts and festivals for the current month.

What’s open and what’s closed

June is when the last seasonal places reopen:

  • Transfăgărășan (DN7C): the high road over the Făgăraș mountains reopened on 12 June in 2026, after a closure since 20 October 2025, with traffic allowed daily 07:00–21:00 and none overnight (Economica.net). CNAIR, the national road company, sets the opening date each year.
  • Râșnov Citadel garden: summer hours, 09:00–19:00, in June, July and August. The citadel itself is closed for restoration; entry to the garden and the Báthory Tower is 10 lei, card only.
  • Poiana Brașov cable cars for walkers: in summer a return trip up Postăvarul costs 70 lei for adults and 40 lei for children aged 6–12.
  • Seven Ladders Canyon: open daily, last entry 16:00, 25 lei for adults. The administrator closes it at short notice for storms. See our Seven Ladders Canyon guide.
  • Summer hours: Bran Castle (09:00–19:00, Monday from 12:00, last entry), the Black Church (to 19:00) and the county museums (10:00–18:00). The museums close on public holidays: 1, 20 and 21 June.
  • Peleș Castle: open Wednesday to Sunday; closed on Monday and Tuesday.
  • Libearty Bear Sanctuary: tours Tuesday to Sunday at 09:45 and 11:00; closed on Mondays, including 21 June.

Best things to do in June

  1. Climb Tâmpa in the cool of the morning. The Serpentine path from the Drapers’ Bastion takes 1 h 15 – 1 h 30; take the cable car down for 30 lei. Routes are in our walks guide.
  2. Seven Ladders Canyon, on a weekday morning, finished before the storms.
  3. Up Postăvarul by cable car for the view (70 lei return), or walk the old road from Pietrele lui Solomon to Poiana Brașov (4.2 km, about 1 h 45) and take bus 20 back for 5 lei.
  4. Bran Castle and the Râșnov garden on a weekday, with a timed ticket bought online. Our guide to getting to Bran Castle from Brașov has the bus timetable and the last bus back.
  5. A Saturday organ concert at the Black Church at 18:00, if the 2027 series starts in June as it did in 2026; it’s also a good way to sit out a storm.
  6. Drive the Transfăgărășan once it opens. The road leaves the DN1 between Brașov and Sibiu near Cârțișoara; our Brașov to Sibiu guide covers that route.

When a storm sets in, our rainy day guide lists indoor options with prices and hours.

Crowds and prices

The first half of June is the sweet spot: schools are in class until Friday 18 June, and the summer holiday runs from 19 June to 5 September 2027 (Order 3194/2026, Ministry of Education). The first weekend of the holiday is also the Rusalii long weekend (19–21 June), so expect it to be busy at Bran, on Tâmpa and on the roads from Bucharest. The 1 June holiday falls on a Tuesday.

What we can say about prices and booking:

  • Book Bran Castle tickets online. The castle says they often sell out well in advance in summer.
  • Expect queues at the Tâmpa cable car at busy times: the operator says the average wait is then about 30 minutes (operator’s page).
  • Peleș is free for under-18s during school holidays, from 19 June, with a booked ticket.
  • Brașov Zoo opens on Mondays during school holidays and on public holidays, so it is open on 21 June.
  • Trains fill up before public holidays. Book the Bucharest–Brașov IR and IC trains early for Friday 18 June; see our Bucharest–Brașov guide.

Room rates vary with the date, so compare the Rusalii weekend with other June dates before you book.

What to pack

  • Light summer clothes and a warm top or fleece for the evenings, when it drops towards 12°C.
  • A light rain jacket or a small umbrella for the afternoon storms.
  • Sun cream, a hat and a refillable water bottle for Tâmpa and Seven Ladders.
  • Shoes with grip: the cobbles are slippery when wet, and the forest paths turn muddy after a storm.
  • A proper jacket for the Transfăgărășan or the high ridges, where it is far colder and windier than in town.
